1. Retained Placenta and Postpartum Haemorrhage
Sammanfattning : The aim was to explore the possibility to diagnose retained placental tissue and other placental complications with 3D ultrasound and to investigate the impact of previous caesarean section on placentation in forthcoming pregnancies.3D ultrasound was used to measure the volumes of the uterine body and cavity in 50 women with uncomplicated deliveries throughout the postpartum period. 2. Nitric oxide donors in labor management
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Nitric oxide donors in labor management Maria Bullarbo Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Institute of Clinical Sciences Background: Nitric oxide (NO), a free radical with ultra-short half-life synthesized from L- arginine by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS), is in the human involved in many physiological and pathophysiological processes, including different reproductive processes. During pregnancy NO is produced endogenously in the human uterine cervix and placenta. LÄS MER
3. Characterizing retained placenta : epidemiology and pathophysiology of a critical obstetric disorder
Sammanfattning : Background: Retained placenta is associated with severe postpartum hemorrhage but its etiology and pathophysiology are largely unknown. Certain studies have suggested that retained placenta is associated to defective placentation disorders- pregnancy disorders with an initial defective placentation resulting in increased oxidative stress. 4. Postpartum Ultrasound
Sammanfattning : This study was undertaken to investigate the involutional changes of the uterus and uterine cavity by ultrasound (US), gray-scale and Doppler, after normal delivery, and to compare with the corresponding findings from women with puerperal complications, particularly retained placental tissue (RPT). The overall design was exploratory and prospective, with the use of descriptive statistics for analysis. LÄS MER
5. Immune regulation at the foetal-maternal interface; implications for healthy and complicated pregnancies
Sammanfattning : For a successful pregnancy, the maternal immune system must acquire tolerance towards the paternal antigens present in the semi-allogeneic foetus. This tolerance is mainly established locally at the foetal-maternal interface, where foetally-derived trophoblasts invade the maternal endometrium (called decidua during pregnancy) and come in close proximity to maternal immune cells.
