  1. 1. Photoplethysmographic heart and respiratory rate monitoring : instrument design and evaluation

    Författare :Håkan Ugnell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : A new optical heart and respiratory rate monitor utilising the photoplethysmographic (PPG) signal is presented.The PPG method, first developed in the 1930s, is based on the fact that incident light to the skin surface is absorbed, scattered and reflected in tissue and blood. 2. 2. Prokaryotic respiratory supercomplexes : Studies of interactions between complexes III and IV

    Författare :Olga Stah; Pia Ädelroth; Petra Hellwig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioenergetics; membrane protein; bacterial respiration; electron transport chain; supercomplex; cytochrome c oxidase; membrane-anchored cytochrome c; cytochrome bc1 complex; electron transfer; proton transfer; time-resolved spectroscopy; apoptosis; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Respiratory processes for cellular energy conversion are carried out by the membrane-associated enzymes of the electron transfer chain (ETC). In recent years there has been emerging data showing that the members of the ETC organize into higher-level assemblies called supercomplexes (SCs) whose functional relevance is not yet fully understood. 3. 3. Lung mechanics in the aging lung and in acute lung injury. Studies based on sinusoidal flow modulation

    Författare :Ulrika Bitzén; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diagnostics; Diagnostik; acute lung injury; lung mechanics; acute respiratory distress syndrome; intensivvård; Anestesiologi; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; Fysiologi; Physiology; flow regulation; method; lung resistance; compliance; aging;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge about lung mechanics is of interest in intensive care to adjust mechanical ventilation and in the lung laboratory for diagnostics and evaluation of patients with various kinds of respiratory diseases. In mechanical ventilation a single inspiratory elastic pressure-volume (Pel/V) curve is difficult to interpret due to continuing re-expansion of collapsed lung units over a large pressure interval. 4. 4. Home Mechanical Ventilation in Sweden. Demography, Indications, Clinical Effects and Survival

    Författare :Michael Laub; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; home mechanical ventilation; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; causes of death; selection criteria; clinical effects; prevalence; temporal changes; survival; Chronic respiratory failure hypoventilation;

    Sammanfattning : Home mechanical ventilation in patients with chronic respiratory failure secondary to several different diseases has become widely acceptable as the provision of ventilatory support can provide symptomatic relief and increase life expectancy. Aims: To study the selection criteria underlying the initiation of home mechanical ventilation and to quantify the effects of in relation to blood gases and lung function; to examine temporal changes in treatment prevalence in Sweden; to study survival and causes of death and demonstrate possible related impact factors. 5. 5. On the Diagnosis and Management of Viral Respiratory Infections

    Författare :Robin Brittain-Long; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiratory virus; Respiratory tract infection; Real-time PCR; Multiplex PCR; Antibiotic use;

    Sammanfattning : Acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs), are the most common infections in man, and represent a major global health burden. Viruses, most often causing a mild and self-limiting disease, yet with substantial morbidity and high costs for society, mainly cause upper respiratory tract infections. LÄS MER
