  1. 1. Health effects of air pollution in Iceland : respiratory health in volcanic environments

    Författare :Hanne Krage Carlsen; Anna Oudin; Thorarinn Gislason; Kadri Meister; Bertil Forsberg; Gunilla Wieslander; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiratory health; air pollution; volcanic ash; epidemiology; hydrogen sulfide.; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Sammanfattning : Air pollution has adverse effects on human health. The respiratory system is the most exposed and short-term changes in air pollution levels have been associated with worsening of asthma symptoms and increased rates of heart attacks and stroke. Air pollution in cities due to traffic is the major concern, as many people are exposed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Making visible the invisible : Health risks from environmental exposures among socially deprived populations of Nairobi, Kenya

    Författare :Thaddaeus Wandera Egondi; Joacim Rocklöv; Nawi Ng; Remare Ettarh; Patrick Kinney; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; air pollution; urban health; temperature-related mortality; particulate matter; exposure assessment; child health; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Most countries of sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are experiencing a high rate of urbanization accompanied with unplanned development resulting into sprawl of slums. The weather patterns and air pollution sources in most urban areas are changing with significant effects on health. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Health effects of heatwaves : short and long term predictions

    Författare :Christofer Åström; Bertil Forsberg; Kristie L. Ebi; Scott Sheridan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heatwave; health impact assessment; early warning system; mortality; morbidity; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Climate change is defined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as changes in the state of the climate associated with changes in the mean and/or the variability of its properties. Climate change will affect temperatures both as an increase in mean temperature as well as changes in the frequency of temperature extremes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exposure, health effects, immunological markers and biomarkers of susceptibility among Swedish rubber workers

    Författare :Lena S Jönsson; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin; industrial medicine; Public health; epidemiology; Folkhälsa; epidemiologi; Occupational health; Andningsorganen; rubber industry; polymorphisms; vulcanisation fumes; Respiratory system; nausea; headache; exposure-response relationships; biomarkers; symptoms; airways; eyes; TTCA; PAH; 1-hydroxypyrene;

    Sammanfattning : Workers in the rubber industry have an increased risk of several diseases, such as airway disease, cancer and probably cardiovascular disease. The exposure is very complex; carbon disulfide (CS2) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) being two of the contaminants. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Exposure to perfluorinated alkyl substances and health effects in pregnant women and their children

    Författare :Matilda Ebel; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; perfluorinated alkyl substances; epidemiology; prenatal exposure; maternal health; child health; register studies;

    Sammanfattning : Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) are chemicals that have gained attention during the last years. There are about 10,000 different PFAS compounds, and due to their unique chemical characteristics, PFAS has been used in a variety of industrial applications and household products since the 1950s.
