  1. 1. Exercise physiology and cardiac function. Aspects on determinants of maximal oxygen uptake

    Författare :Katarina Steding Ehrenborg; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; respiratory indices; peak oxygen uptake; heart failure; cardiac magnetic resonance imaging; exercise physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Although the athlete's heart has been of interest for over 100 years, further characterization of the athletes heart is needed in order to understand how training affects cardiac dimensions and function. Few studies have investigated the effects of training in female athletes and few have compared males and females. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Proton pathways in energy conversion : K-pathway analogs in O2- and NO-reductases

    Författare :Nathalie Gonska; Pia Ädelroth; Alessandro Giuffré; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heme-copper oxidase; cytochrome c oxidase; membrane protein; respiration; electron transfer; proton transfer; redox reaction; metalloprotein; non-heme iron; cytochrome ba3; flow-flash; carbon monoxide; liposome; respiratory control ratio; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Oxygen and nitric oxide reductases are enzymes found in aerobic and anaerobic respiration, respectively. Both enzyme groups belong to the superfamily of Heme-Copper Oxidases, which is further divided into several subgroups: oxygen-reducing enzymes into A-, B- and C-type and nitric oxide reductases into qNORs and cNORs. 3. 3. Severe and moderate alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency at the age of 30

    Författare :Elisabeth Bernspång; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cohort; screening; alpha-1-antitrypsin; lung function; CT densitometry; liver;

    Sammanfattning : Alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT) is a glycoprotein synthesised in the liver. Its main role is to protect lung tissue from destruction by neutrophil elastase. In severe (PiZZ) AAT deficiency, there is an increased risk of emphysema, especially in smokers. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fatigue and Peripheral Muscle Dysfunction: Studies on Vitamin D Status, Muscle Metabolism and Systemic Inflammation in Patients with COPD : Aspects of COPD severity beyond FEV1 and exacerbations

    Författare :Magnus Kentson; Lennart Persson; Jan-Erik Karlsson; Fredrik Nyström; Arne Egesten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundThe severity of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is usually described in terms of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and number of exacerbations. However, COPD is a complex disease with different ways of expression, involving pulmonary symptoms, extra pulmonal manifestations and comorbidities, which altogether affect the patient by contributing to reduced functional capacity, increased shortness of breath, reduced health-related quality of life and increased mortality. 5. 5. Enamel hypomineralization in permanent first molars. A clinical, histo-morphological and biochemical study

    Författare :Birgitta Jälevik; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adolescent; Calcium Metabolism Disorders; complications; Child; Child; Preschool; Dental Enamel; chemistry; Dental Enamel Hypoplasia; epidemiology; etiology; metabolism; pathology; Female; Humans; Male; Molar; pathology; Prevalence; Respiratory Insufficiency; complications; Spectrometry; Mass; Secondary Ion; Sweden; epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Hypomineralization in the permanent first molars was common in a group of 516 Swedish 8-year-old children. Ninety-five children (18.4%) had at least one molar with demarcated opacity. The incisors frequently displayed opacities concomitantly. LÄS MER
