2. Kinins : important regulators in inflammation induced bone resorption
Sammanfattning : Inflammatory processes in, or in close vicinity of, the skeleton often lead to loss of bone tissue. Different cytokines have been shown to be involved as stimulators of inflammatory induced osteoclastic bone resorption. LÄS MER
3. Cellular mechanisms involved in bone resorption
Sammanfattning : The effects of parathyroid hormone (PTH), prostaglandins (PGE1, PGE2, PGF2a), cAMP, cAMP-analogues, phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors and la (OH) D3 on bone resorption and associated cellular process have been studied in a bone organ culture system using half- calvaria from 6-7 day-old mice. Bone resorption was assessed by determining the release of calcium (Ca2+), inorganic phosphate (Pi) and 45Ca from the calvarial bones to the culture media. LÄS MER
4. Orthodontically induced root resorption: a clinical and radiographic survey
Sammanfattning : In 2005 the Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment (SBU), in a systematic review, Malocclusions and Orthodontic Treatment in a Health Perspective, concluded that there were low or contradicted evidence for an association between orthodontic treatment and the risks for negative side effects. The aims of this study was to evaluate the perception of Greek and Swedish orthodontic practitioners view on orthodontically induced root resorption (OIRR), to investigate how root resorption is handled in a large orthodontic clinic and to prospectively study and correlate the prevalence and severity of root resorption seen after an initial treatment period and at the end of treatment, in a cohort of patients treated with fixed appliance. 5. Population Differentiation in Solidago virgaurea along Altitudinal Gradients
Sammanfattning : Altitudinal gradients offer attractive opportunities for studies of population differentiation in response to environmental heterogeneity. In this thesis, I examined population differentiation along altitudinal gradients by combining common-garden experiments with field studies and experiments in alpine, subalpine and boreal populations of the perennial herb Solidago virgaurea.
