1. Volatiles of Conifer Seedlings : Compositions and Resistance Markers
Sammanfattning : Pine weevils cause major damage to newly planted conifer seedlings in reforestation areas. However, recent findings indicate that small (“mini”) seedlings, planted at the age of 7-10 weeks, are gnawed less by pine weevils than the larger, conventionally planted seedlings. LÄS MER
2. Ecology and Evolution of Resistance to Herbivory : Trichome Production in Arabidopsis lyrata
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I examine variation in occurrence and performance of glabrous and trichome-producing plants of the perennial herb Arabidopsis lyrata. I combine field studies and genetic analysis to (1) examine the function of trichomes as a resistance character in natural populations, (2) compare the magnitude of population differentiation in trichome-production and at putatively neutral marker loci, (3) examine the molecular genetic basis of trichome-production, and (4) quantify the effects of herbivore removal on population growth and relative performance of glabrous and trichome-producing plants. 3. Study of Resistance in Hepatitis C Virus Prior to Treatment with Direct Acting Antivirals
Sammanfattning : The rapid advancement of Hepatitis C (HCV) treatment presents a great challenge to clinicians in optimising therapy for their patients. Genotype (GT), efficacy, side-effects, drug combinations and treatment durations must be tailored to individual patients, considering comorbidities, degree of fibrosis, adherence and antiviral resistance. 4. Political geographies of region work
Sammanfattning : Regionalisation processes and regionalist contestation have been the subjects of long-standing debates on state rescaling and political geographies of discontent. Similar dynamics are also present in Norway, where a recent regional reform has faced opposition along centre-periphery lines. LÄS MER
5. Distributions Of Fiber Characteristics As A Tool To Evaluate Mechanical Pulps
Sammanfattning : Mechanical pulps are used in paper products such as magazine or news grade printing papers or paperboard. Mechanical pulping gives a high yield; nearly everything in the tree except the bark is used in the paper. This means that mechanical pulping consumes much less wood than chemical pulping, especially to produce a unit area of printing surface. LÄS MER
