  1. 41. Physiology of Adventure Racing : with emphasis on circulatory response and cardiac fatigue

    Författare :C. Mikael Mattsson; Björn Ekblom; Keith P George; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular drift; cardiac fatigue; adventure race; cardiac biomarkers; cardoac function; exercise echocardiography; Physiology; Fysiologi; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Sports; Idrott; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to elucidate the circulatory responses to ultra-endurance exercise (Adventure Racing), and furthermore, to contribute to the clarification of the so called “exercise-induced cardiac fatigue” in relation to said exercise. An Adventure race (AR) varies in duration from six hours to over six days, in which the participants have to navigate through a number of check-points over a pre-set course, using a combination of three or more endurance/outdoor sports, e. 2. 42. Intracellular signaling in human skeletal muscle following different modes of exercise

    Författare :Henrik Mascher; Eva Blomstrand; Jan Henriksson; Jørgen Jensen; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Resistance and endurance exercise when performed regularly will cause specific adaptations in human skeletal muscle. Resistance exercise is known to increase strength and muscle mass while endurance training increases vascularisation and mitochondrial density which results in enhanced oxidative capacity. LÄS MER

  3. 43. Training and hormones in physically active women : with and without oral contraceptive use

    Författare :Lisbeth Wikström-Frisén; Karin Larsén; Anna Nordtröm; Cecilia Fridén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; female athletes; hormones; menstrual cycle; oral contraceptive cycle; resistance training; muscle strength; power; body composition; female athlete triad; overreaching; overtraining syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The number of women participating in sports has increased dramatically, though research in sports are often performed on men. Physical exercise is known to increase physical performance and improve well-being. LÄS MER

  4. 44. Noninvasive haemodynamic evaluation of aortic valve prostheses : Doppler echocardiographic studies at rest and during exercise

    Författare :Maria J Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :heart valve prosthesis; aortic valve replacement; Doppler echocardiography; exercise; haemodynamics; valve resistance;

    Sammanfattning : The present series of investigations was designed to supply information on in vivo pressure-flow relationships and to analyse the incidence of regurgitation in different heart valve prostheses in the aortic position. Patients and methods: The study population comprised 185 patients with mechanical Björk-Shiley Monostrut prostheses, 54 patients with Biocor stented porcine bioprostheses, 50 patients with extended Biocor stentless bioprostheses and 59 patients with cryopreserved aortic homografts. 5. 45. Exercise strategies to improve aerobic capacity, insulin sensitivity and mitochondrial biogenesis

    Författare :Per Frank; Kent Sahlin; Jørgen Jensen; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Regular exercise plays a key role in the maintenance of health and physical capabilities. Extensive research shows that exercise is an efficient method to prevent diabetes. Both resistance and aerobic exercise training are well known countermeasures for insulin resistance. LÄS MER
