  1. 1. Small artery dysfunction : focus on preeclampsia and end-stage renal disease

    Författare :Natallia Luksha; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :resistance arteries;

    Sammanfattning : Background: End-stage renal disease (ESRD) and preeclampsia (PE) are associated with high risk of cardiovascular events and characterized by endothelial dysfunction. Resistance arteries are actively involved in the control of blood pressure and blood flow to the target organs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effects of oestrogen on haemodynamic and vascular reactivity - A study in animal models and humans

    Författare :Lisa Brandin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adrenergic reactivity; endothelium; haemodynamic; hypertension; oestrogen; postmenopausal women; resistance arteries; spontaneously hypertensive rats; stress;

    Sammanfattning : Effects of Oestrogen on Haemodynamic and Vascular Reactivity A study in animal models and humans Lisa Brandin Institute of Medicine, Department of Emergency and Cardiovascular Medicine, Sahlgrenska University Hospital/Östra, Sahlgrenska Academy, Göteborg University, Göteborg, Sweden ABSTRACT Previous studies have shown that oestrogen, the female sex hormone, plays a protective role in the cardiovascular system. However the site of action remains incompletely understood. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Dynamic Fetal and Placental Circulatory Changes during Uterine Contractions

    Författare :Hui Li; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sexualitet; reproduktion; andrologi; gynekologi; Obstetrik; sexuality; reproduction; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Venous; Uterine; Umbilical; Resistance; Pregnancy; Oxytocin; Labor; IUGR; Flow; Doppler; Contraction; Brain-sparing; Cerebral;

    Sammanfattning : The best mode of delivery for fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and umbilical artery (UA) blood flow changes is not well elucidated. Uterine artery, fetal UA, middle cerebral artery (MCA), and venous blood flow changes during uterine contractions during an oxytocin challenge test (OCT) have not been observed systemically. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Atherosclerosis and Insulin Resistance AIR A cross-sectional study of 58-year old men

    Författare :Lena Bokemark; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Insulin resistance; intima-media thickness; LDL particle size; atherosclerosis.;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that insulin resistance is associated with atherosclerotic disease in the carotid and femoral arteries as measured using the ultrasound technique in clinically healthy 58-year old men with varying degrees of obesity and insulin resistance. The subjects were recruited from the general population and were free from clinical cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and treatment with antihypertensive, lipid-lowering and anti-diabetic drugs (n=818). 5. 5. Regulation of vascular tone in myometrial resistance arteries in normal pregnancy and preeclampsia

    Författare :Karolina Kublickiene; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Atrial natriuretic peptide; Blood vessels; Endothelin-l; Endothelin receptors; Myogenic tone; Myometrial Arteries; Preeclampsia; Pregnancy; Nitric oxide; Shear stress; Vascular endothelium; Vascular smooth muscle .;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Normal pregnancy is characterized by the occurrence of substantial vasodilatation. Pressure responsiveness and vascular reactivity to administered vasoconstrictors undergo considerable attenuation. These circulatory changes are essential to maintain adequate oxygen and nutrient delivery to the placenta and thus to the fetus. LÄS MER
