  1. 1. Chemicals in consumer products : Bridging the gap between academic research and chemicals regulation

    Författare :Linda Molander; Christina Rudén; Magnus Breitholtz; Laura N. Vandenberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; consumer products; articles; chemicals; chemicals regulation; REACH; risk management; health risk assessment; non-standard toxicity studies; study evaluation; reporting guidance; endocrine disrupting compounds; bisphenol A; low dose effects; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Exposure to chemicals emitting from consumer products, such as clothes, electronic devices, toys and kitchen-ware, has emerged as an issue of public health and environmental concern. The use of chemicals having endocrine disrupting properties in commercial products is receiving particular attention as low dose exposures of such chemicals have been associated with adverse effects in both human and wildlife populations. 2. 2. Towards Sustainable Use of Chemicals in the Textile Industry: How life cycle assessment can contribute

    Författare :Sandra Roos; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicity; Textile; LCA; Chemicals; Impact assessment;

    Sammanfattning : The use of chemicals in the textile industry is a topic that has been given increasing attention in recent years. Hazardous chemicals are found in textile consumer products on a regular basis, and there is an increased awareness of the health and environmental impact caused by emissions of hazardous chemicals in the countries where textile production occurs. Sammanfattning : Textile products are used by almost everybody throughout the world, fulfilling basic human needs such as keeping us warm and contributing to our social position. Every year the global textile industry delivers close to 100 million metric tonnes of new products to the market. LÄS MER

  4. 4. From Science to Policy : Improving environmental risk assessment andmanagement of chemicals

    Författare :Marlene Ågerstrand; Christina Rudén; Magnus Breitholtz; Misse Wester; Andreas Kortenkamp; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; environmental risk assessment; chemicals; pharmaceuticals; transparency; predictability; accuracy; consistency; voluntary initiatives; ecotoxicity data; reliability evaluation; relevance evaluation; non-standard test data; CSR; risk management.;

    Sammanfattning : A complex process like risk assessment and the subsequent risk management decision makingshould be regularly evaluated, in order to assess the need to improve its workings. In this thesisthree related matters are addressed: evaluation of environmental risk management strategies,evaluation of environmental risk assessments, and how ecotoxicity data from the open scientificliterature can be used in a systematic way in regulatory risk assessments. Författare :Tallal Belkheiri; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass valorisation; base depolymerisation; biofuel; lignin; green chemicals.;

    Sammanfattning : Lignin is one of the most abundant amorphous macromolecules found in nature. Along with cellulose and hemicellulose, it forms a main component of biomass, and is mainly responsible for providing strength, rigidity and resistance to degradation. From a chemistry perspective, lignin is an important source of aromatics. LÄS MER
