1. The Language Of Space : The Acquisition And Interpretation of Spatial Adpositions In English
Sammanfattning : This thesis by publication presents a study on English adpositions (e.g. to, in, at, from, in frontof, through). LÄS MER
2. Space in motion : the art of activating space in-between
Sammanfattning : As a contribution to the emerging field of practice-based research in the arts, this thesis aims to activate space, experience and the concept in-between. As the in-between cannot be defined ahead of the rhythmic process it carries out and of which it is a part – a rhythm inherent in the city itself and in knowledge production – it is necessary to produce rhythmic relations between bodies, sites and concepts. 3. Functional understanding of space : Representing spatial knowledge using concepts grounded in an agent's purpose
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the role of function in representations of space by robots - that is, dealing directly and explicitly with those aspects of space and objects in space that serve some purpose for the robot. It is suggested that taking function into account helps increase the generality and robustness of solutions in an unpredictable and complex world, and the suggestion is affirmed by several instantiations of functionally conceived spatial models. 4. Interpretation and Alignment of 2D Indoor Maps : Towards a Heterogeneous Map Representation
Sammanfattning : Mobile robots are increasingly being used in automation solutions with notable examples in service robots, such as home-care, and warehouses. Autonomy of mobile robots is particularly challenging, since their work space is not deterministic, known a priori, or fully predictable. LÄS MER
5. Discrete Scale-Space Theory and the Scale-Space Primal Sketch
Sammanfattning : This thesis, within the subfield of computer science known as computer vision, deals with the use of scale-space analysis in early low-level processing of visual information. The main contributions comprise the following five subjects:The formulation of a scale-space theory for discrete signals. LÄS MER
