  1. 21. Role of the hERG-channel in arrhythmia and teratogenicity : studies in animal models and the human embryonic heart

    Författare :Christian Danielsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Drugs that inhibit cardiac repolarization are associated with potentially life threatening side effects in the form of ventricular arrhythmias in humans. Animal studies show that this mechanism also is relevant for the embryo, and that the circulatory depression results in hypoxia with embryotoxicity in the form of malformations and death as a consequence. 2. 22. Metabolic aspects of cardiac arrhythmias

    Författare :Sigfus Gizurarson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiologi; Electrofysiologi; Djurexperiment; Metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiac arrhythmias are an important cause of mortality and morbidity in patients with cardiac diseases. Sudden death due to ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation (VT/VF) in the setting of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and heart failure (HF) is a frequent cause of premature death. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Transducer properties of a mechanoreceptor : an electrophysiological and pharmacological study of the crayfish stretch receptor

    Författare :Jiahui Lin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :stretch receptor; Na channels; K channels; local anesthetics; calmodulin antagonist; patch clamp; voltage clamp;

    Sammanfattning : The abdominal stretch receptor organ of the crayfish, an analog to the human muscle spindle, contains one slowly adapting (SA) and one rapidly adapting (RA) receptor neuron. The general aims of this project were to elucidate, in the SA and RA neurons, the participation of voltagegated Na+ and K+ channels in overall transducer process and adaptation, and to study possible blocking agents specific to mechanosensitive (MS) channels. 4. 24. K+ channels and the regulation of synaptic transmission

    Författare :Evanthia Nanou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Neuronal excitability is highly regulated by K+ channels that are activated by a voltage change across the plasma membrane or by a rise in intracellular Na+ or Ca2+ concentration. The main focus of this thesis has been to characterize the Na+-activated K+ (KNa) and the Ca2+-activated K+ (KCa) channels and to determine their role in regulating synaptic transmission in the lamprey spinal cord. 5. 25. Voltage-Sensor Domains of Ion Channels : Physiology, Regulation, and Role in Disease

    Författare :Michelle Nilsson; Antonios Pantazis; Fredrik Elinder; Henry M. Colecraft; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Brain function depends on the ability of neurons to sense and respond to electricity, which is mediated by small modules in the neuronal membrane called voltage-sensor domains (VSDs). Disruption of VSD function can cause neurological disease such as epilepsy. LÄS MER
