6. Mechanisms of Osseointegration: Experimental Studies on Early Cellular and Molecular Events in vivo
Sammanfattning : The early cellular and molecular activities determining the early tissue response and bone formation at bone/implant interface are not fully understood. The general aim of the current thesis was to develop a model for studying the early molecular and cellular activities in different bone types, and in response to different implant surface properties. 7. On a biomechanical approach to analysis of stability and load bearing capacity of oral implants
Sammanfattning : IntroductionWhen an implant is placed in the bone the body responds to thetrauma by encapsulating the implant and its survival depends onthe ability for hard tissue encapsulation. The stability of the implantduring the healing phase is essential to achieve a good result[1]. Biological, physiological and mechanical phenomena affectimplant stability. LÄS MER
8. On the aetiology of aseptic loosening in joint arthroplasties, and routes to improved cemented fixation
Sammanfattning : Background: Aseptic loosening is the most common single cause for revisions in major joint arthroplasties worldwide. Different theories for aseptic loosening have been discussed during the last two decades. There is a need for improving fixation in both cemented and uncemented implants. LÄS MER
9. On nano size structures for enhanced bone formation
Sammanfattning : Purpose The general aim of the present thesis was to investigate early bone response to titanium implants modified with nano size structures. Therefore, 1. a model to evaluate titanium implants modified with nano size structures was validated; 2. a suitable detection method of nano size structures was implemented. LÄS MER
10. On osseointegration in response to controlled surface nanotopography
Sammanfattning : Knowledge about the biological responses provoked by the surface modification of titanium implants on the nanoscale is still in its infancy. Although in vitro studies claim superior effects considering higher adhesion and proliferation of osteoblasts in the short term and even differentiation towards the osteogenic cell lineage in the long term, these responses do not necessarily reflect the actual outcome in the complex in vivo environment.
