  1. 1. Reliability-based design of rock tunnel support

    Författare :William Bjureland; Fredrik Johansson; Stefan Larsson; Johan Spross; Lars Rosén; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rock engineering; reliability-based design; Eurocode 7; observational method; tunnel engineering; Bergmekanik; sannolikhetsbaserad dimensionering; Eurokod 7; observationsmetoden; tunnelbyggnad; Jord- och bergmekanik; Soil and Rock Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Since 2009, design of rock tunnels can be performed in accordance with the Eurocodes, which allows that different design methodologies are applied, such as design by calculation or design using the observational method. To account for uncertainties in design, the Eurocode states that design by calculation should primarily be performed using the partial factor method or reliability-based methods. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On reliability-based design of rock tunnel support

    Författare :William Bjureland; Stefan Larsson; Fredrik Johansson; Johan Spross; Lars Rosén; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rock engineering; reliability-based design; Eurocode 7; observational method; tunnel engineering; Bergmekanik; sannolikhetsbaserad dimensionering; Eurokod 7; observationsmetoden; tunnelbyggnation.; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Tunneling involves large uncertainties. Since 2009, design of rock tunnels in European countries should be performed in accordance with the Eurocodes. The main principle in the Eurocodes is that it must be shown in all design situations that no relevant limit state is exceeded. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modeling aspects of reliability-based design of lined rock caverns

    Författare :Davi Rodrigues Damasceno; Fredrik Johansson; Johan Spross; Rafael Jimenez; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lined rock cavern; reliability-based design; analytical modeling; finite element modeling; underground gas storage; Inklädda bergrum; tillförlitlighetsbaserad design; analytisk modellering; finita elementmodellering; underjordisk gaslagring; Soil and Rock Mechanics; Jord- och bergmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The storage of large quantities of hydrogen gas in underground lined rock caverns (LRCs) could contribute to an efficient supply of fossil-free energy. The consequences of failure of such storage can be catastrophic, so representative predictive models and a small probability of failure are needed for the LRC design. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Reliability-based Design Procedure for Flexible Pavements

    Författare :Yared Hailegiorgis Dinegdae; Björn Birgisson; Nicole Kringos; Nils Rydén; William Buttlar; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Top-Down fatigue cracking; asphalt mixture morphology; fracture mechanics; response surface; reliability analysis; load resistance factor design; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Load induced top-down fatigue cracking has been recognized recently as a major distress phenomenon in asphalt pavements. This failure mode has been observed in many parts of the world, and in some regions, it was found to be more prevalent and a primary cause of pavements failure. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Aspects on probabilistic approach to design : From uncertainties in pre-investigation to final design

    Författare :Anders Prästings; Stefan Larsson; Rasmus Müller; Jan Laue; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Reliability-based design; Geotechnical design; Geotechnical structures; Sheet-pile wall; Characterization of uncertainties; Geotechnical investigations;

    Sammanfattning : Geotechnical engineering is strongly associated with large uncertainties. Exploring a medium (soil) that is almost entirely and completely hidden from us is no easy task. Investigations can be made only at discrete points, and the majority of a specific soil volume is never tested. LÄS MER
