6. Extreme Electron Beams and Brilliant X-rays : Generation, Manipulation and Characterization of Relativistic Electron Beams for and from Plasma-Based Accelerators
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on work done by the author on the development of plasma-based electron accelerators driven by ultra-intense laser pulses and dense electron bunches. Plasma based accelerators have several benefits, such as accelerating fields around 1000 times stronger than in “conventional” radio-frequency accelerators, which can allow for shrinking the overall footprint of the accelerator. 7. Relativistic theory of laser-induced magnetization dynamics
Sammanfattning : Ultrafast dynamical processes in magnetic systems have become the subject of intense research during the last two decades, initiated by the pioneering discovery of femtosecond laser-induced demagnetization in nickel. In this thesis, we develop theory for fast and ultrafast magnetization dynamics. LÄS MER
8. Extending relativistic linear response theory to address solvent effects
Sammanfattning : The central aim of this thesis is to derive, implement and test new methods to calculate various types of spectroscopies of compounds containing heavy elements in an aqueous environment. Methods that can target such systems have to consider the following:(i) It is crucial to take relativistic effects into account. LÄS MER
9. Enhancement of few-cycle light fields for relativistic nanophotonics
Sammanfattning : Pulses of light that are both ultrashort and ultraintense are often generated using optical parametric amplifiers (OPA). These are capable of driving highly non-linear interactions with matter, which are interesting when studying the fundamental laws of our universe. LÄS MER
10. Multipole Moments of Stationary Spacetimes
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we study the relativistic multipole moments for stationary asymptotically flat spacetimes as introduced by Geroch and Hansen. These multipole moments give an asymptotic description of the gravitational field in a coordinate independent way. LÄS MER
