  1. 1. Dietary fat as an exposure in epidemiological studies. Observations in the Malmö Diet and Cancer cohort

    Författare :Iréne Mattisson; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Absolute fat; cohort study; confounders; energy-adjustment; fibre; food groups; plant food; prospective study; relative fat; underreporting; Public health; Näringslära; epidemiology; breast cancer; Folkhälsa; epidemiologi; Nutrition;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to explore the inherent meaning of total fat and to examine the associations between relative fat intake and postmenopausal breast cancer. Furthermore, the impacts of the alterations in dietary assessment routines are discussed. This thesis uses data from the Malmö Diet and Cancer study, a prospective cohort study. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in the regulation of insulin sensitivity : an experimental study in rat and human adipocytes

    Författare :Magdalena Lundgren; Jan Eriksson; Jonas Burén; Eva Degerman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; adipose tissue; cAMP; glucocorticoids; glucose; insulin; insulin resistance; lipolysis; subcutaneous fat; type 2 diabetes; visceral fat; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity and specifically central obesity is related to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and other components of the so-called metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to elucidate the interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in normal and insulin-resistant fat cell metabolism. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Chemical analysis to promote the use of wild fruits from Mozambique

    Författare :Telma Magaia; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pulps; kernels; consumption; fat; protein; minerals; dietary fibre;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Wild fruit trees have significant cultural and socio-economic value in rural areas of Mozambique. Most of the wild fruits are seasonal and are available mainly in the wet season. Generally they have a short shelf-life and are eaten fresh or after minimal processing; the most common method of preservation is sun-drying. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Human body composition. Reference data and anthropometric equations. The metabolic syndrome and risk

    Författare :Ingrid Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adults; anthropometry; atherosclerotic morbidity; body composition; body fat; cardiovascular disease; DEXA; dual energy x-ray absorptiometry; fat-free mass; FFM; humans; metabolic syndrome; morbidity; mortality; prediction equations; randomly selected sample; reference data; sagittal trunk diameter; TBK; total body potassium; waist circumference;

    Sammanfattning : The determination of body composition is a key to the understanding of the relation between obesity and disease. In order to evaluate body composition data, reference values are needed. Since methods with high validity and reproducibility are expensive and often time consuming, simpler techniques based on anthropometry are needed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Low Protein Diets and Their Effects on Brown Adipose Tissue

    Författare :Erik Lindsund; Jan Nedergaard; Eva Blomstrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Obesity; Protein diets; Dietary protein; Brown adipose tissue; Brown fat; BAT; UCP10; Uncoupeling protein 1; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is a rising health issue and has been linked with a relative decrease of dietary protein, which promotes higher food intake. Brown adipose tissue is a heat-producing, energy-wasting organ that has been shown to be enhanced by a low protein diet. However, the mechanism of how this occurs is largely unknown. LÄS MER
