21. Evaluation of physical work capacity and leg muscle fatigue during exhaustive stair ascending evacuation
Sammanfattning : AbstractPhysical exhaustion can constrain human ascending work capacity and performance during emergency evacuation on stairs. The overall aim of this research was to explore and compare stair ascending capacities and physiological limitations during two different strategies: self-preferred pace in three different public stairways in the field, and controlled pace in a laboratory on a stair machine. 22. The Fight on the Flights : Emergency evacuations – human physiological performance, leg muscle activity and gait biomechanics during exhaustive stair and slope ascent
Sammanfattning : Physical exhaustion can constrain stair ascending capacity during emergency evacuation. The overall aim of this research was to explore and compare stair ascending capacities and physiological limitations when using two different modes: 1) self-preferred pace on three different public stairways, and 2) four machine-controlled paces on a stair machine corresponding to different percentages of maximal aerobic capacity (V̇O2max). 23. The new old normal : reassessing perioperative oxygen consumption and haemodynamics in the elderly
Sammanfattning : Perioperative haemodynamic instability and disturbances of global oxygen transport are associated with complications and organ injury after surgery. The continuously growing population of elderly in surgical care are at higher risk due to age-related cardiovascular alterations and increased prevalence of comorbidities. LÄS MER
24. Alcohol consumption and alcohol-related harm among young people : studies of the recent experience in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Background: The starting point for this thesis was the unexpected development in recent trends in youth drinking and harm in Sweden which seemed to question some basic assumptions of the total consumption model. For example, rapidly falling youth consumption and rising non-drinking rates were seen despite higher availability and increasing population drinking. LÄS MER
25. The influence of psychosocial stress, socioeconomic differences and coffee consumption in the etiology of type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease of multiple etiology and with increased prevalence during the past two decades. We investigated the influence of psychosocial stress in association with type 2 diabetes and looked further into possible explanations of socioeconomic differences in diabetes risk. LÄS MER
