  1. 11. Discovery of Small Peptides and Peptidomimetics Targeting the Substance P 1-7 Binding Site : Focus on Design, Synthesis, Structure-Activity Relationships and Drug-Like Properties

    Författare :Rebecca Fransson; Anja Sandström; John S Svendsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; substance P 1-7; peptidomimetics; structure-activity relationship; drug-like properties; phenylalanine; imidazole; MAP aryl amides; carbonylation; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Sammanfattning : Biologically active peptides are important for many physiological functions in the human body and therefore serve as interesting starting points in drug discovery processes. In this work the neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-OH), which has been demonstrated to reduce neuropathic pain and attenuate opioid withdrawal symptoms in animal models, has been addressed in a medicinal chemistry program with the overall aim of transforming this bioactive peptide into more drug-like compounds. 2. 12. New alternatives to combat Listeria monocytogenes and Chlamydia trachomatis : Design, synthesis, and evaluation of substituted ring-fused 2-pyridones as anti-virulent agents

    Författare :Martina Kulén; Fredrik Almqvist; Anna Linusson Jonsson; Fritiof Pontén; Morten B. Strøm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; anti-virulence; Listeria monocytogenes; Chlamydia trachomatis; ring-fused 2-pyridone; organic synthesis; structure-based design; PrfA; drug design; structure-activity relationship;

    Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance has become a global health burden with the number of resistant bacteria continuously increasing. Antibiotic drugs act by being either bactericidal (killing bacteria) or bacteriostatic (inhibiting growth of bacteria). However, these modes of action increase the selective pressure on the bacteria. 3. 13. Taxonomy, phylogeny, and secondary sexual character evolution of diving beetles, focusing on the genus Acilius

    Författare :Johannes Bergsten; Anders N. Nilsson; Jyrki Muona; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; antagonistic coevolution; arms race; sexual conflict; diving beetle; Dytiscidae; Coleoptera; taxon sampling; long-branch attraction; parsimony; Bayesian analysis; taxonomic revision; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Sexual conflict can lead to antagonistic coevolution between the sexes, but empirical examples are few. In this thesis secondary sexual characters in diving beetles are interpreted in the light of sexual conflict theory. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Co-Creators of Scope of Action : An exploration of the dynamic relationship between people, IT, and work in a nursing context

    Författare :Veronica Köhler; Högskolan Väst; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Industrial engineering and economy; Industriell teknik och ekonomi; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Datateknik; Computer engineering; Computer and Systems Science;

    Sammanfattning : Information Technology (IT) is today widespread in our work places, in our spare time and in our society overall. Implementations of IT in organizations come with high expectations on effectiveness, revenue, smoother work processes and so on. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Design and Synthesis of Acyclic and Macrocyclic Peptidomimetics as Inhibitors of the Hepatitis C Virus NS3 Protease

    Författare :Anna Lampa; Anja Sandström; Youla Tsantrizos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hepatitis C virus; HCV; NS3 protease inhibitor; structure-activity relationship; phenylglycine; ring-closing metathesis; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Sammanfattning : Hepatitis C is a blood-borne disease affecting 130-170 million people worldwide. The causative agent, hepatitis C virus (HCV), infects the liver and is the major reason for chronic liver disease worldwide. The HCV NS3 protease, a key enzyme in the virus replication cycle, has been confirmed to be an important target for drug development. LÄS MER
