  1. 1. Management of chemical risk through occupational exposure limits

    Författare :Linda Schenk; Christina Rudén; Michael Gilek; Maria Albin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; occupational exposure limit; risk assessment; risk management; chemicals regulation; regulatory toxicology; European Union; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) are used as an important regulatory instrument to protect workers’ health from adverse effects of chemical exposures. The OELs mirror the outcome of the risk assessment and risk management performed by the standard setting actor. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Setting occupational exposure limits : Practices and outcomes of toxicological risk assessment

    Författare :Linda Schenk; Christina Rudén; Alan Boobis; Michael Gilek; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) are used as an important regulatory instrument to protect workers’ health from adverse effects of chemical exposures. The main objective of this thesis is to study risk assessment practices in the setting of OEL in order to produce knowledge that will help improve the consistency and transparency of OELs. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mechanisms behind Cadmium-Induced Teratogenicity

    Författare :Estíbaliz López Fernández de Villaverde; Lennart Dencker; Ulf Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; Cadmium; Teratogenesis; Exencephaly; Mechanisms; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Heavy metals polluting our environment cause concern for developing organisms. Among them, cadmium with extremely slow elimination from the body, causes lower birth weight in humans but has not been classify as a human teratogen. Studies in different laboratory animals have shown that cadmium indeed is a potent teratogen. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Proteomic Characterization of Induced Developmental Neurotoxicity

    Författare :Henrik Alm; Lennart Dencker; R Stuart Cobb; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteomics; Brain Development; Neurotoxicity; 2D-DIGE; Brain Growth Spurt; Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether; Neonatal; Striatum; Hippocampus; Cerebral Cortex; Parkinsonism; Dyskinesia; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The developing brain goes through a number of developmental periods during which it displays an increased sensitivity to exogenous disturbances. On such period is the so called “Brain growth spurt” (BGS) which in humans takes place starting from the third trimester of pregnancy and throughout the first few years of life. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Regulatory tools for managing chemicals risk at the workplace

    Författare :Qian Ding; Sven Ove Hansson; Maria Albin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Occupational Diseases; Chemicals; Carcinogens; Risk Management; Regulatory Toxicology; Occupational Exposure Limits; Chemicals Legislations; Risk Assessment; Acceptable Risk;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on exacerbating chemicals risk in workplaces under the background of rapid industrialization in developing countries. The overall aim is to investigate the development of regulatory tools which aim at minimizing the health risks from chemical substances in the workplace. LÄS MER
