6. Regulatory mechanisms controlling T cell activity
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on work studying the immunoregulatory mechanisms that govern the balance between activation and inactivation of T lymphocytes. Most of the work has been carried out in an experimental system using a T cell receptor (TCR-Vb3) transgenic mouse strain to obtain a homogenous T-cell population and utilizing the properties of bacterial superantigens to induce T cell responses and unresponsiveness in vivo. 7. Novel complement regulatory mechanisms in disease
Sammanfattning : The complement system is one of the most important defence mechanisms against bacteria and pathogens. It acts within the framework of both innate and adaptive immunity. LÄS MER
8. Virulence mechanisms of pathogenic Yersinia : aspects of type III secretion and twin arginine translocation
Sammanfattning : The pathogenic bacteria Yersinia pestis and Y. pseudotuberculosis are related to the degree where the former is considered a subspecies of the latter, and still they cause disease of little resemblance in humans. Y. pestis is the causative agent of lethal bubonic and pneumonic plague, while Y. LÄS MER
9. Mechanistic Toxicology : Molecular interactions and underlying mechanisms of dendritic cell activation in skin sensitization
Sammanfattning : Allergic skin diseases caused by low molecular weight chemical compounds are a major health concern among the general population, especially in certain occupational groups. To limit exposure to such compounds, it is important that thorough risk assessments are performed before products reach the consumer market. LÄS MER
10. Multifaceted RNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms in Streptococcus pyogenes
Sammanfattning : Bacterial pathogens rely on precise regulation of gene expression to coordinate host infection processes and resist invasion by mobile genetic elements. An interconnected network of protein and RNA regulators dynamically controls the expression of virulence factors using a variety of mechanisms. LÄS MER
