  1. 6. Numerical Study of Fluid-Structure Interaction with Application to Oscillating Cylinders

    Författare :Mikhail Lazarkov; Strömningsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lock-in.; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; synchronization; flow-induced vibration; LES; Volume of Solid method; Virtual Boundary method; vortex-shedding; confined cylinder; Fluid-structure interaction; wake;

    Sammanfattning : The problem of fluid-structure interaction, occurring in many industrial and engineering applications, are of great importance, since interaction of a flow and a structure in it can lead to serious damages of the structure. The fluid-structure interaction gives rise to a variety of different physical phenomena such as flow-induced vibration, noise generation, etc. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Controlling Weapons of Mass Destruction : An Evaluation of International Security Regime Significance

    Författare :Charles F. Parker; Michael Zürn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Political science; Regimes; security; international cooperation; compliance; weapons of mass destruction; arms control; non-proliferation; nuclear weapons; biological weapons; chemical weapons; NPT; BTWC; CWC; CTBT; Statsvetenskap; Political science; Statsvetenskap; statskunskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation conducts an in-depth examination of the three weapons of mass destruction control regimes: the nuclear non-proliferation regime, the biological weapons control regime, and the chemical weapons control regime (NBC weapon control regimes). By examining a number of key indicators, this study investigates the specific ways each regime makes or does not make a difference in its respective issue area. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Modelling of laser plasma interaction with applications

    Författare :Benjamin Svedung Wettervik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electron wakefield acceleration; ion acceleration; coherent X-ray pulses; plasma; Vlasov-Maxwell equations; continuum methods; radiation generation;

    Sammanfattning : The development of laser systems with ultra-high intensities has both opened up prospects for compact particle accelerators, as well as probing QED-effects, which are present in the high intensity regime. To describe laser matter interaction, it is necessary to self-consistently account for the paths of a large number of particles and the corresponding electromagnetic fields, with the addition of stochastic effects at high laser intensities. 4. 9. The Interaction between Triblock Copolymers and Surfactants in Dilute Aqueous Solution

    Författare :Jörgen Jansson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Calorimetry; SAXS; DLS; SLS; Light scattering; Structure; Complex; Block copolymer-surfactant interaction; Block copolymer vesicles; Self-assembly; Triblock copolymers; NMR;

    Sammanfattning : The solution properties of dilute aqueous solutions of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) triblock copolymers and their interaction with surfactants have been investigated using static and dynamic light scattering, combined with small angle X-ray scattering, calorimetry and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. In aqueous solution, the triblock copolymers P123 and F127 (EO20PO68EO20 and EO97PO68EO97, respectively) form micelles with a PPO core and a PEO corona. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Numerical study of flame dynamics

    Författare :Arkady Petchenko; Vitaly Bychkov; Leonid Kagan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; combustion; Direct Numerical Simulation DNS ; turbulence; flame-vortex interaction; flame acceleration; flame-acoustic interaction; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Modern industrial society is based on combustion with ever increasing standards on the efficiency of burning. One of the main combustion characteristics is the burning rate, which is influenced by intrinsic flame instabilities, external turbulence and flame interaction with walls of combustor and sound waves.
