  1. 1. Prevalence of refractive errors and incidence of myopia in Swedish schoolchildren

    Författare :Pelsin Demir; António Filipe Macedo; Karthikeyan Baskaran; Niall Strang; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Refractive error; myopia; prevalence; incidence; risk factors; children; fovea; macula; autorefractor; aberrometer; synfel; refraktion; myopi; barn; prevalens; incidens; riskfaktorer; fovea; makula; autorefractor; aberrometer; Optometry; Optometri;

    Sammanfattning : PurposeThe aim of this thesis was to investigate the prevalence, incidence, and risk factors for myopia development in a cohort of Swedish schoolchildren. The specific goals were: - to recruit a cohort of children aged 8 to 16 years and to follow the cohort over a period of 24 months with regular study visits; - to investigate the predictive value of relative peripheral error and other optical parameters for the prevalence and incidence of myopia; - to determine and investigate the predictive value of genetic and environmental factors, and structural characteristics of the eye to the incidence of myopia. 2. 2. Refractive surgery with the ArF excimer laser (photorefractive keratectomy) : surgical technique, wound healing and refractive results

    Författare :Heléne Hamberg-Nyström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Photorefractive keratectomy; excimer laser; comparison; centration; contrast sensitivity; night vision; endothelial cell; epithelial thickness; multipassmultizone; multizone; haze; saccades; hyaluronan; myopic regression; reoperation; wound healing.;

    Sammanfattning : Excimer lasers have been adapted to treat refractive errors in the human eye since 1987. By remodeling the corneal surface, myopia and astigmatism can be corrected. The investigations herein were performed during a time period when the surgical technique development was extensive. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Improving Peripheral Vision Through Optical Correction and Stimulus Motion

    Författare :Peter Lewis; Peter Unsbo; Linda Lundström; Jörgen Gustafsson; Michael Crossland; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; absolute central scotoma; central visual field loss; eccentric viewing; preferred retinal locus; open-view aberrometer; off-axis refractive errors; eccentric correction; dynamic visual acuity; spatial contrast sensitivity; temporal contrast sensitivity; spatio-temporal contrast sensitivity; Optometry; Optometri; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The loss of central vision subsequent to macular disease is often extremely debilitating. People with central field loss (CFL) must use other peripheral areas of the retina in order to see; areas with inferior resolution capacity, which are also affected by off-axis optical errors. 4. 4. Optimal Use of Peripheral Vision

    Författare :Karthikeyan Baskaran; Jörgen Gustafsson; Peter Unsbo; Staffan Carius; Michael Crossland; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; off-axis refractive errors; peripheral aberrations; aberrometers; central visual field loss; preferred retinal locus; eccentric viewing; absolute central scotoma; adaptive optics; eccentric correction.; Optometry; Optometri;

    Sammanfattning : People who lose their central vision have to rely on their peripheral vision for all visual tasks. The ability to resolve fine details in the periphery is reduced due to retinal limitations and the optical aberrations arising from the use of off-axis vision. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Asthenopia in schoolchildren

    Författare :Saber Abdi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Asthenopia; prevalence; accommodative insufficiency; convergence; binocular disorders; refractive errors; Visual Analogue Scale; eye movements and reading;

    Sammanfattning : Asthenopia is a term used to describe different symptoms associated with the use of the eyes, such as pain, blurred vision, diplopia, headaches. Asthenopia is most often reported in association with near vision. Children with asthenopia complain of such symptoms particularly when reading and writing. LÄS MER
