  1. 1. Seismic investigations and physical property studies of natural resources in Finland and Sweden : Efficient exploration of groundwater and mineral resources

    Författare :Georgiana Maries; Alireza Malehmir; Christopher Juhlin; Musa Manzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seismic reflection; seismic refraction; esker; glacial sediments; iron-oxide; hardrock; efficient exploration; physical property; forward modeling; seismic quality factor; Finland; Sweden; Bergslagen;

    Sammanfattning : Natural resources, such as mineral deposits and groundwater in particular, are crucial for our society, as the world prepares itself for a smooth transition towards green technologies and decarbonization. Apart from extraction and use, innovative mineral exploration solutions are needed to complete the full value chain and to achieve the sustainable development goals. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A geophysical investigation of carbonate build-ups in the Baltic Basin using reflection seismic and well data

    Författare :Tegan Levendal; Christopher Juhlin; Lars Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reflection seismic; Ordovician; Silurian; Carbonate mud mounds; Reefs; Gotland; Sweden; CAES; Seismic interpretation; OPAB dataset; 3D seismic; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Sammanfattning : During the Late Ordovician, the region around Gotland was part of a shallow epicratonic basin in the southern subtropics. Low latitudes, relatively warm sea temperatures and the presence of a shallow marine environment promoted algae to flourish and diverse carbonate build-ups such as carbonate mounds and reefs developed on the southern margin of Baltica. 3. 3. 2D and 3D Seismic Surveying at the CO2SINK Project Site, Ketzin, Germany: The Potential for Imaging the Shallow Subsurface

    Författare :Sawasdee Yordkayhun; Christopher Juhlin; Charlotte Krawczyk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inversion; Traveltime tomography; 3D seismic surveys; Seismic velocity; Seismic source; CO2SINK project; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Seismic traveltime inversion, traveltime tomography and seismic reflection techniques have been applied for two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) data acquired in conjunction with site characterization and monitoring aspects at a carbon dioxide (CO2) geological storage site at Ketzin, Germany (the CO2SINK project). Conventional seismic methods that focused on investigating the CO2 storage and caprock formations showed a poor or no image of the upper 150 m. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Seismic-Reflection and Seismic-Refraction Imaging of the South Portuguese Zone Fold-and-Thrust Belt

    Författare :Cedric Schmelzbach; Christopher Juhlin; Laust Pedersen; Hans Thybo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; Dip-moveout; Prestack time migration; Crooked-line geometry; Traveltime tomography; Inversion; Seismic velocity; IBERSEIS profile; Variscan orogeny; Iberian Pyrite Belt; Geofysik; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The South Portuguese Zone (SPZ), which host world-class massive sulphide deposits, forms the southern fold-and-thrust belt of the Iberian Variscan orogeny. This thesis focuses on seismic-reflection and seismic-refraction processing efforts on a subset of the IBERSEIS deep seismic-reflection data set aiming at resolving the SPZ upper crust in high resolution. 5. 5. Geophysical Studies Bearing on the Origin of the Arctic Basin

    Författare :Nina Lebedeva-Ivanova; Christopher Juhlin; David Gee; Ruth Jackson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :refraction seismic; reflection seismic; crustal structure; Arctic Ocean; Amerasia Basin.; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Sammanfattning : Deep troughs and ridges of the Arctic Basin are some of the least known features of the Earth's crust. Some of the ridges, eg. Chukchi and Nordwind, are connected directly to the continental shelves and are certainly submarine promontories of the latter. LÄS MER
