1. Mathematical Modelling of Light Scattering in Paper and Print
Sammanfattning : A problem formulation and a solution method are outlined for the radiative transfer problem in vertically inhomogeneous scattering and absorbing media, using discrete ordinate model geometry. The treatment spans from the physical problem via a continuous formulation, a discretization and a numerical analysis, to an implementation with performance evaluation and application to real-world problems. 2. Storage of Hydrogen Peroxide Bleached Mechanical Pulp : Reduction in Reflectance over the Visible Spectrum
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to determine possible causes of the darkening of hydrogen peroxide bleached mechanical pulp over the visible spectrum and their relative contributions. It focuses on both process conditions and the composition of the pulp and the dilution water, including additions or losses of material along the process line from the bleach tower to the paper machine. 3. Numerical Studies of Energy Gaps in Photonic Crystals
Sammanfattning : The concept of photonic crystals was born in the late 1980's when two important letters were published that showed the possibility to control light propagation by a periodic structure. A photonic crystals consists of two or more materials with different dielectric functions periodically arranged on the length scale of light. LÄS MER
4. On the evaluation of print mottle
Sammanfattning : Print Mottle is perhaps one of the most disturbing factors influencing overall Print Quality. Mottle has traditionally been evaluated by estimating the reflectance variation in the print. LÄS MER
5. Optical Spectroscopy on Correlated Electron Materials
Sammanfattning : Strongly correlated materials poses a great challenge to our microscopic understanding of matter, mainly due to the inability of perturbative methods to predict the properties of such materials. This inability stems from strong correlations between electronic, lattice and spin degrees of freedom, leading to a variety of complex and exotic phenomena such as (unconventional) superconductivity, metal-insulator transitions, non-Fermi liquid behavior and colossal magnetoresistance.
