  1. 16. On the role of innate cell interactions in inflammation and leukemia

    Författare :Rebecca E Riise; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Innate immunity; neutrophils; NK cells; caspase-1; apoptosis; myeloid leukemia; ROS; immunotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammatory cells of the innate immune system launch rapid and powerful effector responses in the combat against infectious pathogens. However, these inflammatory mediators may cause excessive damage to the host and, therefore, require rigid control systems to maintain the delicate balance between prompt clearance of infections and the risk of developing immunopathology. 2. 17. Interactions between the brain and the immune system in pain and inflammation

    Författare :Joanna Zajdel; David Engblom; Annika Thorsell; Jan Pieter Konsman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammation; pain; EP3Rs; serotonin; CGRP; conditioned taste aversion; maternal separation; maternal buffering;

    Sammanfattning : Reciprocal interactions between the nervous and immune systems have gained a lot of attention in the last two decades, especially after demonstrating that cytokine immunotherapies can induce depression and after describing the inflammatory reflex. A lot of effort has been dedicated to understanding how the signals from the immune system reach the brain and vice versa, and on their role in health and disease. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Summer cyanobacterial blooms in the Baltic Sea - implications for copepod recruitment

    Författare :Hedvig Hogfors; Sture Hansson; Wim Kimmerer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; Calanoid copepods; Food web interactions; Harmful algae blooms; Zooplankton; Nodularin; Allelopathy; Baltic Sea; Biochemical markers; RNA-based indices; Acidification; Global Climate Change; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : During summer, the Baltic Sea is subjected to the world’s largest cyanobacterial blooms. These blooms are linked to eutrophication and raise many questions concerning their effects on the ecosystem. To understand their impacts on the food web dynamics, it is essential to assess growth responses of grazers to these cyanobacteria. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Ecological and Evolutionary Consequences of Herbivory in the Perennial Herb Lythrum salicaria

    Författare :Lina Lehndal; Jon Ågren; Peter Hambäck; Marc Johnson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Disturbance gradient; Female reproductive success; Galerucella calmariensis; Galerucella pusilla; Herbivore removal; Latitudinal gradient; Local adaptation; Nanophyes marmoratus; Plant-herbivore interactions; Plant size; Resistance to herbivory; Tolerance to damage; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combined field, common-garden and greenhouse experiments to examine the ecological and evolutionary consequences of plant-herbivore interactions in the perennial herb Lythrum salicaria. More specifically I examined (1) whether resistance and tolerance to damage from herbivores vary with latitude and are positively related to the intensity of herbivory in natural populations, (2) whether effects of herbivory on plant fitness vary with latitude, (3) whether populations are locally adapted and whether herbivory influences the relative fitness of populations, and (4) whether the intensity and effects of insect herbivory on reproductive output vary locally along a disturbance gradient and are associated with differences in plant resistance. 5. 20. There’s no time to rush! : pigs’ and transport drivers’ welfare and interactions during slaughter transport

    Författare :Sofia Wilhelmsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Loading at slaughter transport is one of the most stressful situations for pigs. Animal transport drivers require a broad set of skills and knowledge on e.g. pig handling. LÄS MER
