  1. 1. Cellular and molecular responses of periodontal connective tissue cells to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans cytolethal distending toxin

    Författare :Georgios N. Belibasakis; Sotirios Kalfas; Ulf H. Lerner; Anders Johansson; Veli-Jukka Uitto; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans; cytolethal distending toxin; periodontal connective tissue cells; localized aggressive periodontitis; growth arrest; bone resorption; receptor activator of NF-κB ligand; osteoprotegerin; pro-inflammatory cytokines; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is present in elevated proportions and numbers in dental bacterial biofilms of patients with localized aggressive periodontitis. This variant of periodontal disease, occurring in adolescents and young adults, is characterized by rapid and severe destruction of the connective tissues and bone supporting the teeth, eventually culminating in tooth loss. 2. 2. Expression of prostaglandin E synthase-1 in periodontitis : in vivo and in vitro studies

    Författare :Anna Kats; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by destruction of the supporting structures of the teeth, including gingival tissues and alveolar bone. In advanced cases of periodontitis the ultimate clinical outcome is tooth loss. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Osteotropic cytokines : expression in human gingival fibroblasts and effects on bone

    Författare :Py Palmqvist; Andersson Göran; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :osteoblasts; osteoclasts; fibroblasts; cytokines; IL-6; LIF; OSM; IL-4; IL-3; bone resorption; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Bone metabolism is regulated by endocrine and paracrine signalling molecules influencing bone cells in the continuously remodelling bone tissue. These molecules include a variety of osteotropic stimulatory and inhibitory cytokines. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Novel Insights into Inflammatory Disturbed Bone Remodelling

    Författare :Elin Kindstedt; Pernilla Lundberg; Östen Ljunggren; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Bone is a dynamic tissue that is continuously remodelled, a process that requires equal amounts of osteoclastic bone resorption and osteoblastic bone formation. Inflammation may disturb the equilibrium and result in local and/or systemic bone loss. Negative bone mass balance occurs in several chronic inflammatory diseases, e.g. LÄS MER
