6. The role of the serotonergic system and the effects of antidepressants during brain development examined using in vivo PET imaging and in vitro receptor binding
Sammanfattning : Serotonin (5-HT) and the serotonergic system, which includes the serotonin transporter (SERT) and the two G protein-coupled 5-HT1A and 5-HT1B receptors, are implicated in the pathophysiology and treatment of several neuropsychiatric disorders including major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety. Two classes of antidepressants—selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which block SERT, and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), which block several monoamine transporters—alter 5-HT levels and modulate the serotonergic system. 7. Brewer’s yeast as a protein source in the diet of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) reared in a clear water or biofloc environment
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigated the effects of dietary protein replacement of fishmeal or soybean meal with spent brewer’s yeast (SBY) in farmed tilapia and giant freshwater prawns. The effect of rearing tilapia and prawn in two different rearing systems, clear water recirculating aquaculture system (CW-RAS) and biofloc recirculating aquaculture system (Bio-RAS), were also investigated. 8. Bolivian creole cattle: population structure, genetic diversity and management practices
Sammanfattning : Characterization studies of local livestock breeds are important to identify their potential and value for the Global Animal Genetic Resources. Important traits have been attributed to local breeds including adaptability and resilience to harsh environments and other traits with potential use in breeding schemes oriented towards the challenges of climate change. 9. Drivers of polymorphism dynamics in pygmy grasshoppers
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I used colour polymorphism in pygmy grasshoppers as a model system to study the influence of selection, developmental plasticity, mating behaviour and gene flow on patterns of phenotypic and genetic diversity within and among populations in changing environments.Data for more than 5,000 individuals collected from natural populations showed that the incidence of black (melanic) pygmy grasshoppers was higher in burnt than in non-burnt areas, and rapidly declined over time within populations in post-fire environments. 10. Psychosocial aspects of depressive disorders
Sammanfattning : The objective of this study was to elucidate the possible importance of factors from the social environment for the development of depression. As a theoretical framework, Engel's biopsychosocial model (Engel, 1980), based on systems theory, has been applied. LÄS MER
