Sammanfattning : Fog computing is a distributed computing paradigm that brings data processing from remote cloud data centers into the vicinity of the edge of the network. The computation is performed closer to the source of the data, and thus it decreases the time unpredictability of cloud computing that stems from (i) the computation in shared multi-tenant remote data centers, and (ii) long distance data transfers between the source of the data and the data centers. Sammanfattning : In modern and future parallel and distributed processing, a large part of computation overhead comes from communication. This can be minimized if the network protocol offers the user services that are aimed at specific types of communication used in these applications. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Modern GPUs have evolved to the point where they now offer a generality of programming that rivals CPUs, while at the same time sustaining much greater raw performance. In combination with a continued rapid increase in power, this generality has turned the GPU into an important platform for general purpose high performance computing algorithms. LÄS MER
4. On distributed real-time systems : the mStar environment, net-based learning and context-aware applications
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis presents two frameworks for distributed real-time systems, the mStar environment for Computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW) and the Alipes architecture for context-aware applications, from the perspective of distributed teamwork and net-based learning. The mStar environment was designed to be symmetric and fully distributed, which allows all users equal access and thus full interactivity, as well as scalable through the use of IP multicast and a server-less design. Sammanfattning : Modern safety-critical real-time systems are becoming more and more complex, due to sophisticated applications such as advanced driving assistance, automated driving, advanced infotainment, and applications involving machine learning and deep learning. This has led to increased requirements for the communication infrastructures. LÄS MER
