  1. 21. Anabolic Androgenic Steroids : Effects on Neuropeptide Systems in the Rat Brain

    Författare :Mathias Hallberg; Fred Nyberg; Pierre Le Grevès; James Zadina; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biological research on drug dependence; Anabolic androgenic steroids; Nandrolone decanoate; Substance P; NK1 receptor; Substance P 1-7 ; Endopeptidase; Opioids; Calcitonin gene-related peptide; Radioimmunoassay; Autoradiography; Central nervous system; Rats; Biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological research on drug dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) have been used in clinics for decades. The misuse of AAS has previously been attributed merely to sport athletes, taking AAS with intentions to increase muscle mass, enhance physical performance and to improve results in competitions. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Photoreceptors in experimental retinal cell transplants

    Författare :Bengt Juliusson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; immunohistochemistry; mice; rabbits; rats; interphotoreceptor matrix; retinal pigment epithelium; photoreceptors; Retina; transplantation; Oftalmologi;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to investigate the fate of photoreceptor cells when using different strategies for retinal cell transplantation. Comparing transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina with cell suspensions of the same tissue we found that transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina result in mature transplants with a higher degree of cellular organization than transplantation of cell suspensions of embryonic retina. 3. 23. Growth Hormone and Anabolic Androgenic Steroids : Effects on Neurochemistry and Cognition

    Författare :Alfhild Grönbladh; Mathias Hallberg; Jörgen Isgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; anabolic androgenic steroids; nandrolone decanoate; insulin-like growth factor; GABAB; opioids; memory; water maze; autoradiography; central nervous system; rats; Biological Research on Drug Dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) stimulates growth and metabolism but also displays profound effects on the central nervous system (CNS). GH affects neurogenesis and neuroprotection, and has been shown to counteract drug-induced apoptosis in the brain. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Oscillatory Ca2+ signaling in glucose-stimulated murine pancreatic β-cells : Modulation by amino acids, glucagon, caffeine and ryanodine

    Författare :Meftun Ahmed; Per Lindström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; pancreatic β-cells; islets of Langerhans; glucose; Ca2 oscillations; Ca2 transients; potassium; ryanodine; caffeine; glucagon; cAMP; inositol 1; 4; 5-trisphosphate; fura-2; glycine; alanine; arginine; Ca2 channels; rats; lean mice; ob ob mice; leptin; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Oscillations in cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) is the key signal in glucose-stimulated β-cells governing pulsatile insulin release. The glucose response of mouse β-cells is often manifested as slow oscillations and rapid transients of [Ca2+] i. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Endothelium-derived substances and regional hemodynamics in experimental hypertension

    Författare :Sven-Olof Granstam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; nitric oxide; endothelin; hypertension; rats; SHR; hemodynamics; blood pressure; blood flow; acetylcholine; carvedilol; microsphere method; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), a model for experimental hypertension, is considered to have similarities with essential hypertension in humans. Differences between SHR and normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) in the vascular response to endothelial-derived substances such as nitric oxide (NO) have been intensively studied in vitro. LÄS MER
