  1. 6. Overlapping Neural Substrates of Alcohol- and Anxiety-Related Behavior in the Rat

    Författare :Riccardo Barchiesi; Estelle Barbier; Markus Heilig; Annika Thorsell; Andrew Holmes; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alcohol use disorder; Anxiety disorder; Behavior; Rat; Prelimbic cortex; Amygdala; Basolateral amygdala; Stress; Epigenetics; Syt1; Prdm2; Avp; Conditioned fear; Social defeat stress; Witness stress; Susceptibility; Resilience;

    Sammanfattning : Alcohol use is a leading cause of death and disease worldwide. A large part of this disease burden is associated with alcohol use disorder (AUD), a diagnostic category characterized by excessive use in spite of negative consequences ("compulsive use"), a loss of control over intake, and choice of alcohol over natural rewards. 2. 7. Differential effects of voluntary running on hippocampal plasticity in the adult rat brain

    Författare :Andrew Stuart Naylor; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :exercise; hippocampus; stress; progenitor proliferation; neurogenesis; trophic factors; frontal cortex; spatial memory; rat; pCREB; endogenous opioids;

    Sammanfattning : The continuation of neuronal birth from dividing neural stem cells in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus throughout adulthood is known to play an important role in maintaining normal hippocampal function, such as memory and learning. Negative alterations in the levels of adult neurogenesis have also been linked to several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer s disease and mood disorders such as depression. LÄS MER

  3. 8. PACAP and orphanin FQ/nociceptin -Distribution, importance and regulation in sensory neurons and spinal cord

    Författare :Lina Pettersson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; trk; spinal cord; sensory neuron; rat; PAC1; PACAP; ORL1; OFQ N; neurotrophin; neuropeptide; nerve transection; nerve compression; inflammatory pain; BDNF; DRG;

    Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide expression in the nervous system is abundant and plastic, and an altered expression after injury is an example of a functional response, helping the neuron to cope with adverse changes, and involves effects on differentiation, synthesis, repair/regeneration, survival, and modulation of signal transmission. I have investigated the distribution/expression of the neuropeptides, orphanin FQ/nociceptin (OFQ/N) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP), under normal conditions, in response to nerve injuries, and also studied sensory responses in mice deficient for the PAC1 receptor (PAC1-/-). 4. 9. New neurons and astrocytes in the adult brain. Studies on adult rat neural progenitors in vivo and in vitro with special reference to the effects of IGF-I and CNTF regarding proliferation and lineage determination

    Författare :Maria A I Åberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Brain; hippocampus; rat; neurogenesis; progenitor cell; stem cell; ciliary neurotrophic factor; insulin-like growth factor-I; PI3-K; MAPK.;

    Sammanfattning : The hippocampal dentate gyrus in several species, including man, continues to produce new neurons and glial cells in adulthood. The generation of new neurons and glial cells in the adult hippocampus is under strict regulation. Two major events of significance for cell genesis from progenitor cells are proliferation and lineage determination. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Impulse noise and brain injury. An experimental study in rats

    Författare :Annette Säljö Moberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :apoptosis; astrocytes; brain injury; blast; c-Fos; c-Jun; c-Myc; impulse noise; ; neurons; neurofilament; NSE; rat and S-100;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract. Pressure waves, experienced as impulse noise, affect many body organs, although most attention has been paid to the inner ear. Impulse noise is produced by e.g. LÄS MER
