  1. 21. Sensory and secretory responses to intestinal distension; implications for the pathophysiology of the irritable bowel syndrome

    Författare :Marie Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :irritable bowel syndrome; secretion; transmucosal potential difference; migrating motor complex; colorectal distension; visceral sensitivity; colitis; enteric nervous system; rat; mouse;

    Sammanfattning : Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common gut disorder, characterized by abdominal pain and/or discomfort associated with disturbed bowel habits. The pathophysiology of IBS is complex and still largely unknown, although visceral hypersensitivity is frequently associated with the disease. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Neurogenesis and gliogenesis after focal brain ischemia. Modulation by enriched environment and exercise

    Författare :Mila Komitova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :astrocyte; hippocampus; neural progenitor cells; neural stem cells; neurogenesis; neurotrophins; rat; regeneration; rehabilitation; stroke;

    Sammanfattning : New neurons are formed from dividing neural stem cells in restricted areas in the adult mammalian brain: the dentate gyrus of the hippocampal formation (DG) and the forebrain subventricular zone (SVZ). New glia also form constitutively and seem to be important for neuronal function. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Clinical and laboratory studies on propofol

    Författare :Anders Gadegaard Jensen; Torsten Lindahl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Atelectasis; bowel function; rat neurons; cytoskeleton; cytosolic calcium; haemodynamic stability; human glial cells; leucocytes; propofol; recovery assessment; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing major abdominal surgery were randomly given total intravenous anaesthesia based on propofol and fentanyl, anaesthesia based on propofol, fentanyl and nitrous oxide or anaesthesia based on isoflurane and fentanyl. Postoperative atelectasis demonstrated by computed tomography of the chest was found to a similar extent and a similar decrease in arterial oxygen pressure was seen in the groups. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Chloride Homeostasis in Central Neurons

    Författare :Tushar Yelhekar; Staffan Johansson; Michael Druzin; Merab Kokaia; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chloride concentration; current-voltage relation; interpolation; voltage ramp; reversal potential; [Cl–]i recovery; KCC2; extracellular matrix; GABAA receptor; chloride leak conductance; neurosteroid; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present thesis is to clarify the control of intracellular chloride homeostasis in central neurons, because of the critical role of chloride ions (Cl–) for neuronal function. Normal function of the central nervous system (CNS) depends on a delicate balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Nitric oxide in central nervous structures associated with water balance and micturition

    Författare :Anders Nylén; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacological sciences; spinal projections; True Blue; cystometry; circumventricular organs; paraventricular nucleus; supraoptic nucleus; NADPH diaphorase; immunohistochemistry; oxytocin; 8-arginine-vasopressin; hypothalamus; rat; micturition; nitric oxide; water balance; neuronal nitric oxide synthase; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The role of nitric oxide (NO) in the central control of water balance and micturition has not yet been established. In the present thesis, where female rats were used, neuronal NO synthase (nNOS) distribution was studied in structures of the central nervous system known to be associated with the above mentioned control.
