  1. 1. POLYPEPTIDES - STRUCTURES AND INTERACTIONS IN MONOLAYERS AND AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS

    Författare :Helen Sjögren; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; tyrosine ; co-poly-L lysine; phenylalanine ; co-poly-L- lysine; poly-L-glutamate; poly-L-lysine; poly-L-valine; poly-L-isoleucine; poly-gamma-methyl-L-glutamate; poly-L-leucine; monolayer; Langmuir-Blodgett film; CD spectroscopy; random coil; alpha-helix; surfactant stabilisation; polypeptide; polyamino acid;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work is to understand and be able to control polypeptide conformation and interactions at interfaces and in solution by changing the solution conditions. For this purpose simple model polypeptides, so-called polyamino acids, have been investigated at the air-liquid interface, as well as in aqueous solutions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanical Properties of Liquid Crystal Polymer Fibres

    Författare :Eivor Neikter; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; copolymer hydroxybenzoic acid; thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers; polyethylene terephthalate; mechanical properties; hydroxybenzoic acid;

    Sammanfattning : Fibres of thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers (LCP) and its blends containing a random coil polymer LCP have been spun at low draw ratio at different temperatures and shear rates. Their mechanical properties have been studied in detail. LÄS MER

  3. 3. De Novo Design and Characterization of Surface Binding Peptides - Steps toward Functional Surfaces

    Författare :Patrik Nygren; Bengt-Harald Jonsson; Klas Broo; Linda Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Peptide; design; nanoparticle; CD; Amino acid; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The ability to create surfaces with well-defined chemical properties is a major research field. One possibility to do this is to design peptides that bind with a specific secondary structure to silica nanoparticles. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Metallocene based peptidomimetics and chiral catalysts

    Författare :Suzana Maricic; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; asymmetric catalysis.; metallocene based amino alcohols; one-pot macrocyclisation; cyclic peptides; Organometallic substance P and Leu 5 -enkephalin; conformational analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Several optically active organometallic Phe-AAn-Phe peptidomimetics and macrocyclic Phe-(Phe)n peptides have been synthesized by either intra- or intermolecular peptide bond formation of the corresponding bis(amino acid) derivatives. The key bis(amino acid) derivatives were available from an improved multi-step synthetic route, utilising Horner-Wadswort-Emmons olefination of organometallic aldehydes with phosphonylglycine reagents, enantioselective hydrogenation of didehydro amino acids and classical solution and/or solid phase peptide synthesis methodology. 5. 5. Interaction Between Antimicrobial Peptides and Phospholipid Membranes : Effects of Peptide Length and Composition

    Författare :Lovisa Ringstad; Martin Malmsten; Per Hansson; Jeremy Ramsden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adsorption; antibacterial; antimicrobial peptide; bilayer; ellipsometry; electrochemistry; electrostatic interactions; hydrophobicity; liposome; membrane; monolayer; phospholipid; secondary structure; supported bilayer.; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Due to increasing problems with bacterial resistance development, there is a growing need for identifying new types of antibiotics. Antimicrobial peptides constitute an interesting group of substances for this purpose, since they are believed to act mainly by disrupting the bacterial membrane, which is a fast and non-specific mechanism.
