11. Numerical studies of spin chains and cold atoms in optical lattices
Sammanfattning : An important, but also difficult, research field in condensed matter physics is that of strongly correlated systems. This thesis considers two topics in this field. The first topic is disorder and frustration in spin models. The introduction of disorder into quantum spin chains creates a complex problem. LÄS MER
12. Bank branches and Entrepreneurship : A spatial analysis of new firm formation in Swedish regions and industries in a changing financial landscape
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to analyse how bank branch closure has affected the formation of new firms and to explore the varying local relationships between the accessibility of bank branches and new firm formation in 290 Swedish municipalities. In the first paper, the effect of bank branch closure is examined through spatial econometric analysis, in particular, the fixed effects and the random effects spatial panel models. LÄS MER
13. Superfluid Phase Transitions in Disordered Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results from large scale Monte Carlo simulations of systems subject to a superfluid phase transition in the presence of disorder. The simulations are performed by state-of-the-art, collective Monte Carlo algorithms treating phase degrees of freedom in effective models with amplitude fluctuations integrated out. LÄS MER
14. Theoretical Studies of Binaries in Astrophysics
Sammanfattning : This thesis introduces and summarizes four papers dealing with computer simulations of astrophysical processes involving binaries. The first part gives the rational and theoretical background to these papers. In paper I and II a statistical approach to studying eclipsing binaries is described. LÄS MER
15. Incentives and Norms in Social Insurance: Applications, Identification and Inference
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five self-contained essays. Essay 1: (with Patrik Hesselius and Per Johansson) This essay tests if social work norms are important for work absence using a large scale randomised experiment. LÄS MER
