  1. 1. Metal release from stainless steels and the pure metals in different media

    Författare :Gunilla Herting; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Lena Wegrelius; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; stainless steel; iron; chromium; nickel; metal release; artificial rain; synthetic body fluid; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This study has been triggered by the fact that stainless steel is being increasingly used in new applications, where possible environmental effects may be a matter of concern. When stainless steel is exposed to a given environment, a key issue is the release of small amounts of the main alloying elements iron, chromium, nickel and molybdenum. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Atmospheric corrosion and runoff processes on copper and zinc as roofing materials

    Författare :Wenle He; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :atmospheric corrosion; corrosion rate; runoff rate; copper; zinc; field study; laboratory study; roof; first flush; rain quantity; rain intensity; rain pH; dry and wet deposition; corrosion and runoff process;

    Sammanfattning : An extensive investigation with parallel field andlaboratory exposures has been conducted to elucidateatmospheric corrosion and metal runoff processes on copper andzinc used for roofing applications. Detailed studies have beenperformed to disclose the effect of various parameters on therunoff rate including: surface inclination and orientation,natural patination (age), patina composition, rain duration andvolume, rain pH, and length of dry periods inbetween rainevents. 3. 3. Distribution, Sources and Environmental Pathways of Radioactive 129I in Fresh and Saline Water in the Baltic Region

    Författare :Abdulaziz Kekli; Ala Aldahan; Xiaolin Hou; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; 129I; iodine; environment; precipitation; river; Baltic Sea; radioactivity; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with distribution, sources and pathways of radioactive 129I (T1/2=15.6 My) in 54 rivers covering the Baltic region, precipitation (rain and snow) from southern, central and northern Sweden, and saline water from three depth profiles in the Baltic Sea and a surface water transect from the Baltic to the Kattegat. 4. 4. What are the effects of natural versus human-caused acidity on stream species diversity and ecosystem functioning?

    Författare :Zlatko Petrin; Björn Malmqvist; Steve J. Ormerod; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acid rain; aquatic insects; biodiversity; ecosystem function; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human activities have caused acidification of freshwater systems on a large scale resulting in reduced species diversity and ecological functioning in many lakes and streams. However, many naturally acidic freshwater systems have also been found, for instance in northern Sweden. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Halogenated organic matter in precipitation

    Författare :Krzysztof Laniewski; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : Deposition in rain and snow plays a crucial role in the regional and global redistribution of a great variety of substances. This thesis is devoted to chemical characterisation and identification of the halogenated organic compounds that are most widespread in rain and snow. LÄS MER
