  1. 1. Atmospheric corrosion and runoff processes on copper and zinc as roofing materials

    Författare :Wenle He; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :atmospheric corrosion; corrosion rate; runoff rate; copper; zinc; field study; laboratory study; roof; first flush; rain quantity; rain intensity; rain pH; dry and wet deposition; corrosion and runoff process;

    Sammanfattning : An extensive investigation with parallel field andlaboratory exposures has been conducted to elucidateatmospheric corrosion and metal runoff processes on copper andzinc used for roofing applications. Detailed studies have beenperformed to disclose the effect of various parameters on therunoff rate including: surface inclination and orientation,natural patination (age), patina composition, rain duration andvolume, rain pH, and length of dry periods inbetween rainevents. 2. 2. Persistent organic pollutants in the atmosphere - spatial and temporal variations

    Författare :Cecilia Backe; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tropical and temperate regions; global transport; temperature; latitudinal fractionation; fugacity; soil organic matter; soil-air exchange; washout ratio; rain; precipitation; atmosphere; spatial and temporal variations; DDT; PCB; persistent organic pollutants; polychlorinated biphenyls; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Ecology; Ekologi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : In these thesis I have studied the spatial and temporal variations of PCBs in the atmosphere and in precipitation in southern Sweden. Further, soil-air exchange processes of PCBs were investigated. Finally, the long-range transport of PCBs and DDT was studied in the Baltic Sea region and in a tropical vs. a temporal region. 3. 3. Resistance of Clay Brick Masonry Façades to Wind-Driven Rain : Repointing of Eroded Mortar Joints

    Författare :Mohammad Kahangi; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; clay brick masonry façade; wind-driven rain; water absorption; water penetration; damp patches;

    Sammanfattning : Clay brick masonry façades are commonly used due to their high-performance durability. However, exposure to climate agents such as wind-driven rain (WDR), freeze-thaw cycles, and wind abrasion cause deterioration of masonry façades over time. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Torneträsk System - A basis for predicting future subarctic ecosystems

    Författare :Didac Pascual; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; carbon fluxes; ecosystem change; climate projections; rain on snow; modelling; impacts; snow; permafrost; winter warming events;

    Sammanfattning : Arctic and subarctic areas have experienced a rapid warming and substantial increases in precipitation in recent decades. The frequency and intensity of some extreme events, such as fires, winter warming events, extreme rainfall, and droughts, has also increased. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Characterisation of Urban Rainfall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    Författare :Mohamed Nor bin Desa Mohamed; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; velocity; vector; monsoon; Malaysia; thunderstorm; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Rainfall characteristics of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are studied in space and time; on a large scale, 550 km2, and long term scale to find out the monsoon influence, and on urban basin scale, 23 km2, to determine dynamic properties of rainfalls and spatial correlations, and on a point scale to determine the probabilities of very high rain intensities. The importance of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall was investigated applying cross correlation on long term historical rainfalls from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. LÄS MER
