  1. 1. Comparability of Railway Rail Steels Low Cycle Fatigue Behaviour

    Författare :Martin Schilke; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; railway rail steel; strain energy density; Low cycle fatigue;

    Sammanfattning : Several different kinds of steel are used for railway rails. From simple pearlitic steels for rarely used tracks over premium pearlitic steels for high performance lines to special bainitic, martensitic and austenitic steels for switches and crossings. Most of these steels have been trial and error developed over time in track. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Degradation of railway rails from a materials point of view

    Författare :Martin Schilke; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Anisotropy; White etching layer; Rail grade; Rolling contact fatigue; Three dimensions; Plastically deformed layer; Railway Rail; Crack;

    Sammanfattning : From time to time railway rails need to be replaced. In that case and when new track is built, a decision has to be made about which rail grade that is going to be installed. The intention of this work was to compare different rail steels concerning their suitability from a mechanical durability perspective. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Long-term rail damage evolution in railway crossings

    Författare :Rostyslav Skrypnyk; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ; wheel-rail contact mechanics; Dynamic vehicle-track interaction; wear; FEM; switches crossings; metamodel; plasticity;

    Sammanfattning : To accommodate the passage of wheels in intersecting traffic routes, fixed railway crossings have discontinuous rails leading to an intense load environment due to repeated wheel-rail impacts. This gives rise to high costs associated with repair and maintenance of the rails in the crossing. 4. 4. Temperature Stability of Railway Wheel Steels - Influence on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties

    Författare :Krste Cvetkovski; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :Railway; Diffusion; Low cycle fatigue; Fe‐Mn‐Si; Spheroidisation;

    Sammanfattning : Being the single component transferring load and traction from the vehicle to the rail, the selection of materials and structural properties of railway wheels are critical. Carbon steel with a pearlitic microstructure is the most commonly used material due to its high strength, low cost and good wear properties. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Thermal and mechanical behaviour of railway wheel steel

    Författare :Johan Ahlström; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :phase transformations; plastic deformation; sliding contact; heat conduction modelling; low cycle fatigue; railway wheel steel Fe-0.5C-0.3Si-0.75Mn-0.05V ; austenitisation; transformation kinetics; heat treatment; friction;

    Sammanfattning : The wish to increase loads and speeds of trains puts higher demand on construc¬tion, engineering and material than ever before. Therefore it is necessary to con¬tinuously develop technology to meet these increasing requirements. LÄS MER
