  1. 1. Rail Corrugation Growth on Curves

    Författare :Peter Torstensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; short-pitch rail corrugation; rotating flexible wheelset model; small radius curves; prediction of long-term roughness growth; plastic deformation; non-Hertzian and non-steady wheel‒rail contact; wear; rutting corrugation;

    Sammanfattning : The development of periodic irregularities with distinct wavelengths (corrugation) on the low rail of small radius curves is studied through mathematical modelling, numerical simulations, field measurements and laboratory investigations. One year of monitoring of roughness on the low rail of a 120 m radius curve on the metro of Stockholm Public Transport (SL) showed severe growth of rail corrugation with wavelengths of about 5 cm and 8 cm. 2. 2. Rail Corrugation Growth on Curves

    Författare :Peter Torstensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; simulation; track and wheelset structural flexibility; small radius curves; short-pitch rail corrugation; dynamic vehicle–track interaction; test rig and field measurements; wear;

    Sammanfattning : Short-pitch rail corrugation that may develop on the low (inner) rail on small radius curves causes increased noise and vibration levels on railway networks worldwide. In lack of a generally applicable treatment, track authorities are forced to run expensive rail grinding programs on a regular basis to manage these problems. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Tread Braking of Railway Wheels - Noise-related Tread Roughness and Dimensioning Wheel Temperatures

    Författare :Tore V Vernersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rail chill; block material; temperature; heat partitioning; railway; corrugation; thermoelastic analysis; tread braking; noise;

    Sammanfattning : Block braking is a commonly used braking system for freight wagons and other types of railway vehicles. One or several brake blocks are pressed against the tread (running surface) of the wheel, which is also in rolling contact with the rail. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Surface defects in rails - Potential influence of operational parameters on squat initiation

    Författare :Robin Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; RCF; squats; dynamic vehicle–track interaction; rail corrugation; Rail surface irregularities;

    Sammanfattning : Despite significant efforts throughout the last decades, the mechanisms behind the formation of squats — a form of rolling contact fatigue (RCF) damage in rails — are not fully understood. Proposed causes of initiation involve, but are not limited to, small initial rail surface irregularities which yield high contact stresses, rail corrugation and varying friction conditions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modelling and Simulation of Train-Track Interaction including Wear Prediction

    Författare :Clas Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; full-scale measurements; rail corrugation; substructuring; wheel-rail contact; multibody dynamics; dynamic train-track interaction; three-dimensional motion;

    Sammanfattning : Many problems in railway traffic arise as a result of the dynamic interaction between rolling trains and tracks. The problems include both instantaneous effects due to induced vibrations of track and vehicle, and more long-term processes of a detrimental nature. LÄS MER
