1. Experimental cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation : with special reference to cerebral eicosanoid production and free radical scavengers
Sammanfattning : Reperfusion injury after restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) is often considered one of the predominant factors in determining neurological outcome in cardiac arrest. Therefore one of the main targets of experimental and clinical studies has been to mitigate this reperfusion injury. LÄS MER
2. Delayed Cell Death after Traumatic Brain Injury : Role of Reactive Oxygen Species
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability TBI survivors often suffer from severe disturbances of cognition, memory and emotions. Improving the treatment is of great importance, but as of yet no specific neuroprotective treatment has been found. LÄS MER
3. Mechanisms of alloxan diabetogenicity
Sammanfattning : Suspensions of pancreatic islet cells from ob/ob-mice were incubated with Trypan Blue. Microscope photometry showed that apparently viable cells excluded the dye completely, whereas the nuclei of non-viable cells accumulated Trypan Blue by a saturable process. LÄS MER
4. Redox effects on neutrophils in wound healing conducted by wound dressings and hyperbaric oxygen
Sammanfattning : The increased influx of neutrophils into chronic wounds results in increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), nitric oxide (NO) and lipid peroxidation products (LPP), as well as a ROS-induced increase in protease levels. The NO and LPP impair the respiratory burst response of the neutrophils and reduce their capacity to kill bacteria and digest debris. LÄS MER
5. Developmental disturbances of the embryo in diabetic pregnancy
Sammanfattning : Maternal diabetes during pregnancy constitutes an increased risk for congenital malformation in the offspring. Previous studies have suggested that diabetic embryopathy is associated with an excess of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as with a disturbance of prostaglandin (PG) metabolism. LÄS MER
