6. Ethical Aspects of Radiation Risk Management
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on the assumption that the intersection of moral philosophy and practical risk management is a rewarding area to study. In particular, the thesis assumes that concepts, ideas, and methods that are used in moral philosophy can be of great benefit for risk analysis, but also that practices in risk regulation provide a useful testing ground for moral philosophical theories. 7. Modelling of laser plasma interaction with applications to particle acceleration and radiation generation
Sammanfattning : The development of laser systems with ultra-high intensities has allowed the study of the relativistic interaction of laser light and ionized matter, plasmas, as well as opened up prospects for compact particle accelerators, generation of high intensity X-ray, XUV radiation, and probing QED-effects, which are present in the high intensity regime. To describe laser matter interaction, it is necessary to self-consistently account for the paths of a large number of particles and the corresponding electromagnetic fields, with the addition of stochastic effects at high laser intensities. 8. Synchrotron radiation from runaway electrons in plasmas
Sammanfattning : Highly relativistic runaway electrons are of great concern in the area of fusion energy research, since their presence in tokamak plasmas have the potential to hinder the successful and stable operation of the device, and potentially cause severe structural damage. In this thesis, runaway electron generation dynamics is investigated using the newly developed efficient computational tool CODE. LÄS MER
9. Generation of coherent short-wavelength radiation --- High-order harmonics and x-ray lasers
Sammanfattning : The recent availability of short-pulse, high-intensity, compact lasers has opened doors to new and fascinating areas in atomic physics. Using the Lund Terawatt Laser, the interaction of femtosecond, near-infrared and visible laser radiation with matter at intensities in the range 1013--1017 W/cm2 was studied. LÄS MER
10. Toward Creating a Coherent, Next-Generation Light Source with special emphasis on nonlinear harmonic generation in single-pass, high-gain free-electron lasers
Sammanfattning : There is a strong desire for short wavelength (~1 Å), short pulsewidth (.... LÄS MER
