6. Posterior capsule opacification : An experimental study in vitro and in vivo
Sammanfattning : The clinical and economic significance of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) makes it an important public health problem. A better understanding of the pathogenesis in order to reduce/prevent PCO is needed. For this purpose an experimental model in the rabbit was used and further developed in thisthesis. LÄS MER
7. On cellular sources for intimal hyperplasia after vascular interventions
Sammanfattning : Vascular interventions for the treatment of symptomatic atherosclerosis fail in up to 40 % of the cases during the first year. One important reason is the development of a narrowing process known as intimal hyperplasia (IH). The cells forming IH resemble smooth muscle cells (SMCs) from the media of the arterial wall. LÄS MER
8. Exploring genetic diversity in natural and domestic populations through next generation sequencing
Sammanfattning : Studying genetic diversity in natural and domestic populations is of major importance in evolutionary biology. The recent advent of next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies has dramatically changed the scope of these studies, enabling researchers to study genetic diversity in a whole-genome context. 9. On Bone Regeneration in Porous Bioceramics - Studies in humans and rabbits using free form fabricated scaffolds
Sammanfattning : The objective of the present thesis was to evaluate the effect of material chemistry and macroand micro-porosity on bone regeneration in association with synthetic, porous ceramic materials. Ceramic scaffolds were designed and manufactured for experimental and human studies using free form fabrication (FFF), a technique which produces the object layer by layer using data from CAD files. 10. Modelling of Diffuse Brain Injury: Combining Methods to Study Possible Links between Transient Intracranial Pressure and Injury
Sammanfattning : The objectives of this research are the study of sagittal rotational acceleration induced diffuse brain injury mechanisms. Such injuries are common in vehicle accidents in particular; the consequences range from mild to severe symptoms and may lead to persistent neurological dysfunction. LÄS MER
