16. The Role of Hepatic Leukemia Factor in Hematopoiesis
Sammanfattning : The development of therapeutic methods based on stem cells (e.g. cell therapy, activating regeneration and organ transplantation), known as regenerative medicine, is still a novel area in the field of life sciences. LÄS MER
17. The role of Six1 in muscle progenitor cells and the establishment of fast-twitch muscle fibres
Sammanfattning : Myogenesis is the process of skeletal muscle tissue formation where committed muscle progenitor cells differentiate into skeletal muscle fibres. Depending on the instructive cues the muscle progenitor cells receive they will differentiate into specific fibre types with different properties. LÄS MER
18. Experimental gene therapy with special reference to plasma cell tumors
Sammanfattning : Gene therapy may open new perspectives in the treatment of numerous hematopoietic and metabolic disorders. Particularly, hematopoietic cells are very attractive targets for retroviral mediated gene transfer. LÄS MER
19. Adult neurogenesis : from stem cell to functional neuron
Sammanfattning : The adult mammalian central nervous system harbors a population of neural stem cells with the ability to generate neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. These pluripotent cells can be enriched in vitro, and by directing their differentiation it would be possible to generate populations of specific neural cell types to use for transplantation. LÄS MER
20. Influence of FK506 on certain aspects of lymphocyte activation and lymphocyte-endothelial cell interactions in vitro
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, the influence of the immunosuppressive drug FK506 on mitogen-induced changes in the expression of subunits a and ß of the IL-2 receptor by isolated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been studied. Up-regulation and release of the a-chain were potently depressed by FK506, even in the presence of exogenous IL-2. LÄS MER
