11. Characterisation of newt neural stem cells during development and regeneration
Sammanfattning : The adult newt brain has a unique potential to regenerate neurons after injury. Ependymoglial cells that line the ventricular system of the newt brain are critical for neuronal regeneration, since they reenter the cell cycle upon injury and differentiate into neurons. Ependymoglial cells share key features with radial glial cells in mammals. LÄS MER
12. Hypoxia inducible factor 1 alpha : dependent and independent regulation of hematopoietic stem cells and leukemia
Sammanfattning : This thesis has studied the role of low oxygen levels, or hypoxia, in hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and how, at the molecular level, it regulates stem cell maintenance and protects against oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS). HSCs reside within the bone marrow in specific niches created by a unique vascularized environment, which is suggested to be hypoxic and crucial for HSCs by maintaining a quiescent state of cell cycle and by redirecting metabolism away from the mitochondria to glycolysis. 13. Regulation of Hematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cells by Bone Marrow Niche Components
Sammanfattning : Throughout the lifespan of an individual, enormous numbers of mature blood cells are generated by hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in the bone marrow (BM). The HSC is a cell that can self-renew to maintain the HSC pool and differentiate into all types of mature blood cells. LÄS MER
14. An ependymal cell quest : identification and functional role of spinal cord neural stem cells
Sammanfattning : Few injuries have as profound and long-lasting consequences as spinal cord injury. The primary areas of impaired function typically include sensation, mobility, bladder, bowel and sexual function. The economic, social and personal effects can also be devastating. LÄS MER
15. Spatial and temporal regulation of neural stem cells in the developing brain by PRDM16
Sammanfattning : The mammalian brain comprises a large number and diversity of neurons and non-neural cells. Most of these cell types derive from a single sheet of neuroepithelium (NE) that contains a limited pool of neural stem cells (NSCs). NSCs in the developing brain are under complex regulation to achieve maximum daughter cell type diversity. LÄS MER
