21. Theoretical studies of blue copper proteins
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, a critical investigation is presented about the role of mechanical strain for the electron-transfer properties of the blue copper proteins. It has been found that the structure of a realistic model complex of the oxidised blue-copper active site, optimised in vacuum with the B3LYP method, has the same trigonal cupric geometry as in the protein. 22. Analytical and Numerical Developments in Strongly Correlated Systems: Perspectives from TDDFT and Green's Functions
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates different methods for treating strongly correlated systems, and discusses their respective strengths and weaknesses. Many of the results presented in this thesis come from comparing the different methods and approximations to exact results. LÄS MER
23. Ultrafast dynamics of small quantum systems studied using electron-ion coincidence spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Studying how small quantum systems, like molecules and clusters, interact with X-rays is crucial to understanding the ultrafast processes that occur in nature on incredibly short timescales, ranging from femtoseconds to picoseconds. X-rays excite small quantum systems to unstable core hole states, leading to a cascade of phenomena, including Auger decay, nuclear rearrangement, and dissociation. LÄS MER
24. Design and Construction of Low-Temperature Scanning Tunnelling Microscope for Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses some of the fundamental requirements needed to be fulfilled when constructing a low temperature scanning tunnelling microscope (STM). Three different designs, two non-vacuum and one ultra-high vacuum (UHV), based on either inertial-mass or novel stepper motor principles are presented. LÄS MER
25. Exact Results in Supersymmetric Field Theories : A dissertation on the defect and deformed
Sammanfattning : Quantum field theories (QFTs) are the most precise descriptions of the physical reality that humanity has found. Yet exact predictions are often missing as most computations are notoriously difficult to carry out. One generally resorts to perturbation theory which immediately limits the regime of validity.
