1. Quantum Resources for Efficient Excitation Energy Transfer in Natural and Artificial Pigment-Protein Molecular Aggregates
Sammanfattning : Recently, long-lasting quantum effects in a number of photosynthetic complexes, which are pigment-protein molecular aggregates (PPMAs), were experimentally verified. These findings created an interest in trying to connect the known highly efficient excitation energy transfer (EET) in these systems to the existence of quantum effects such as quantum coherence and quantum correlations. 2. Quantum computing with naturally trapped sub-nanometre-spaced ions
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this work, was to lay the foundations for the experimental realisation of a quantum mechanical controlled NOT gate in rare-earth-metal-ion-doped crystals. Small amounts of rare-earth elements, added during the growth of some inorganic crystals, will become substituted into the crystal lattice as trivalent ions. LÄS MER
3. Quantum Optics and Waveguide Quantum Electrodynamics in Superconducting Circuits
Sammanfattning : Waveguide circuit quantum electrodynamics (waveguide circuit QED) studies light-matter interaction with superconducting circuits in one dimension. In circuit QED, natural atoms are replaced by superconducting qubits consisting of a non-linear Josephson junction, resulting in an anharmonic energy spectrum just like real atoms. LÄS MER
4. Theory of Hydrogen Quantum Diffusion
Sammanfattning : Atomic hydrogen adsorbed on a metal surface is one of the simplest possible examples of chemisorption, yet it is very challenging. The adsorption and the very elementary process of surface diffusion, a single atomic jump, have been investigated theoretically using several methods. LÄS MER
5. Optical Studies of Single Quantum Dots
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents spectroscopic studies of single self-assembled InP quantum dots (QDs). The electronic properties of these QDs have been studied by photoluminescence (PL) and scanning tunnelling luminescence (STL). The QDs were grown in the Stranski-Krastanow mode and were embedded in GaInP. LÄS MER
