11. Application of metalation reactions for synthesis of sulfur/selenium-containing heterocyclic compounds
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals mainly with the synthesis of various sulfur/selenium-containing heterocyclic compounds, many of which include structural features present in several biologically active molecules, with particular emphasis on compounds of synthetic importance, such as indoles, as well as other heteroaromatic species. In the first part, an efficient procedure toward synthesis of new 3-(arylthio)indoles based on reactions of aryl Grignard reagents or lithiated heteroaromatics with protected 3,3′-dithiobisindoles is described. 12. Excited-state dynamics of small organic molecules studied by time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Ultra-violet and visible light induced processes in small organic molecules play very important roles in many fields, e.g., environmental sciences, biology, material development, chemistry, astrophysics and many others. Thus it is of great importance to better understand the mechanisms behind these processes. LÄS MER
13. Natural Products from Cameroonian Medicinal Plants
Sammanfattning : Natural product chemistry is a main research area in Cameroon, as well as for the division of Bioorganic Chemistry at Lund Institute of Technology. A review of the results obtained recently with Cameroonian medicinal plants shows that a large number of compounds, many with complex structures, have been isolated and characterised, and the work presented in this thesis is part of this effort. 14. Development of Novel Hydroporphyrins for Light Harvesting and Sensitising NIR Lanthanide Luminescence
Sammanfattning : Chlorins, as the core structures of chlorophylls, have been extensively studied for harvesting solar energy, fluorescent imaging and photodynamic therapy against cancer. This thesis is concerned with design and synthesis of novel chlorins as antennae for harvesting light and sensitising near infrared lanthanide luminescence. LÄS MER
15. Expanding the Amino Acid Alphabet by Design : Enhanced and Controlled Catalytic Activity in Folded Polypeptide Catalysts
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses structure and reactivity of polypeptide catalysts in reactions that mimic the hydrolysis of RNA and DNA. A designed helix-loop-helix motif was used as a scaffold where the amino acid residues were systematically varied. LÄS MER
