  1. 1. Vitamin B6 as a potential antioxidant : a study emanating from UV-B-stressed plants

    Författare :Mikael Ristilä; Åke Strid; Leif Eriksson; Éva Hideg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; UV-B irradiation; pyridoxine; vitamin B6; ROS; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Increased influx of solar UV-B radiation (280-320 nm), due to a decreasing stratospheric ozone layer, impacts severely on plants. Some of the UV-B effects on plants are related to stress induced by produced reactive oxygen species (ROS). Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) has been reported to be a potential quencher of ROS. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Coffee and gene interaction. The effect on methionine and lipid metabolism

    Författare :Elisabeth Strandhagen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :coffee; homocysteine; cholesterol; folate; pyridoxine; MTHFR; APOE; gene; polymorphism; interaction;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Different dietary factors influence the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), most likely in an interaction with genetic polymorphisms. The knowledge about such interactions is insufficient. Some observational studies have shown an association between coffee and CHD, others have not. Coffee consumption affects some CHD risk factors, e. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Homocysteine and Coronary Artery Disease With special Reference to Biochemical Effects Of Vitamin Therapy

    Författare :Torfi Jonasson; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; pyridoxine.; oxidative stress; lipid peroxidation; inflammation; homocysteine; endothelial function; folate; F2-isoprostanes; cystatine C; Acut coronary syndrome; cardiovascular disease; asymmetric dimethylarginine; cobalamine;

    Sammanfattning : An elevated plasma level of homocysteine has been suggested as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The objectives of this thesis were to study the influence of renal function on homocysteine levels in patients with coronary artery disease and to explore the association of elevated plasma levels of homocysteine to oxidative stress, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction. 5. 5. Sulfur amino acids and their metabolites in patients with renal failure : relation to nutritional status and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Mohamed Elsaeid M Suliman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cardiovascular disease; chronic renal failure; cysteine; diabetes mellitus; glutathione; homocysteine; malnutrition; serum albumin; sulfur amino acids; taurine;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) have a high prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD), malnutrition and diabetes mellitus (DM) and exhibit several abnormalities in amino acid metabolism. The aims of this thesis were to assess alterations in sulfur amino acids and related sulfur compounds in relation to nutritional status, CVD and DM in CRF patients. LÄS MER
