  1. 1. Insulin promotes GABA signalling modulation in both the mouse hippocampus and human CD4+ T cells

    Författare :Hayma Hammoud; Bryndis Birnir; Fredrik Elinder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gamma-aminobutyric acid; hippocampus; tonic currents; CD4 T cells; glucose; insulin; cytokines; proliferation.; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the most common inhibitory neurotransmitter in the adult mammalian brain, where it mediates several biological functions. Rapid inhibition is predominantly mediated by the activation of GABA-A receptors that are ubiquitously expressed across the central nervous system in a cell-, circuit-, or region-specific manner. 2. 2. Role of intermediate filaments and expression of GFAP and S-100 in astrocytes

    Författare :Mei Ding; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Astrocytes participate in a variety of important physiologic and pathologic processes in the central nervous system (CNS). One of the most remarkable characteristics of astrocytes is their vigorous response to CNS injuries. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Model-Based Hypothesis Testing in Biomedicine : How Systems Biology Can Drive the Growth of Scientific Knowledge

    Författare :Rikard Johansson; Gunnar Cedersund; Tomas Strömberg; Peter Strålfors; Marija Cvijovic; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The utilization of mathematical tools within biology and medicine has traditionally been less widespread compared to other hard sciences, such as physics and chemistry. However, an increased need for tools such as data processing, bioinformatics, statistics, and mathematical modeling, have emerged due to advancements during the last decades. LÄS MER

  4. 4. In vivo properties of neural stem cells after transplantation into the rat brain-Studies of phenotypic differentiation and functional integration using cell-specific labelling and electrophysiological techniques

    Författare :Ulrica Englund Johansson; Peter Eriksson; Lund Oftalmologi; []

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, we have examined the in vivo properties of in vitro expanded human and rat neural stem-and progenitor cells after transplantation into the neonatal and adult rat brain. The survival and differentiation of the grafted cells were assessed using species-specific antisera, and pre-labelling with the reporter gene green fluorescent protein (GFP). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neuronal networks involved in low back pain; experimental studies

    Författare :Elin Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; low back pain; disc herniation; pyramidal tract; reticulospinal tract; longissimus muscle; nucleus pulposus; VPL; thalamus; rat; cat;

    Sammanfattning : Low back pain is a common cause of disability, with a lifetime prevalence of up to 80%. A lumbar disc herniation, involving a bulging disc and/or leakage of the intervertebral disc’s nucleus pulposus, may be a possible cause of back and sciatic pain. Low back pain has also been associated with dysfunctional control of the paraspinal muscles. LÄS MER
