21. Development and characterization of damped cubic response functions with application to two-photon absorption
Sammanfattning : Molecular response to electromagnetic fields - static or optical - within a framework of perturbation theory diverges close to resonance with molecular transitionen energies, and need work-around solutions for real-valued response functions. This licentiate thesis deals with nonlinear response, with focus being on cubic polarizaibilities, and outlines the underlying mathematics for exact-state and approximatestate, complex-valued response functions applicable to quantum chemical computation. 22. Gastro-intestinal toxicity related to haemopoietic stem cell transplantation with a special focus on the intestinal barrier function
Sammanfattning : The myeloablative, cytotoxic therapy (conditioning treatment) prior to haemopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has the combined purpose of eliminating leukaemic or cancer cells located in the bone marrow or elsewhere in the body and, in the allogeneic setting, of suppressing the immune response of the recipient to prevent marrow rejection. The unwanted effect is the inevitable elimination of normal, haemopoietic stem cells, a lethal effect which is circumvented by the following administration of haemopoietic stem cells from the patient (autologous HSCT) or from a related or an unrelated donor (allogeneic HSCT). 23. Molecular dynamics simulations of RNA bulges, loops and base flipping
Sammanfattning : RNA molecules have several important functions in a cell. They carry the genetic information from DNA to protein, act as catalysts and regulate gene expression. Both DNA and RNA consist of nucleotides, DNA molecules are mainly double stranded while RNA molecules often have single stranded regions that interrupt the double stranded structure. LÄS MER
24. Preclinical studies of roscovitine
Sammanfattning : Cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks) are key enzymes implicated in vital functions of the cell including regulation of the cell cycle, apoptosis, transcription and differentiation. Abnormal regulation of these molecules has been correlated to several diseases, such as cancer, viral infections, neural disorders and kidney inflammations. LÄS MER
25. Structural Studies of Glutamine Synthetases – Towards the Development of Novel Antitubercular Agents
Sammanfattning : Glutamine synthetase (GS) plays an important role in nitrogen metabolism, where it catalyzes the ATP-dependent condensation of glutamate and ammonia to yield glutamine. Recent studies showed the importance of M. tuberculosis GS (MtGS) for growth and survival of the bacterium, and demonstrated its potential as a drug target. LÄS MER
