  1. 1. Aspects on wall properties of the brachial artery in man : with special reference to SLE and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Niclas Bjarnegård; Toste Länne; Reinhard Volkmann; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arterial wall; atherosclerotic; brachial artery BA ; type 1 diabetes; ulse wave velocity PWV ; pulse wave analysis PWA ; intima-media thickness IMT ; nitrate mediated dilatation NMD ; Diabetology; Diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : The mechanical properties of the arterial wall are of great importance for blood pressure regulation and cardiac load. With increasing age, large arteries are affected by increased wall stiffness. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sleep disordered breathing and hemodynamic function

    Författare :Ludger Grote; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :sleep apnea; hypertension; blood pressure; vascular function; exercise; arousal;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the association between sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and hemodynamic function. A cross sectional study in a sleep laboratory cohort (n=1190) demonstrated a dose-response relationship between the severity of SDB, expressed as respiratory disturbance index (RDI), and office blood pressure, heart rate, and the risk of hypertension. 3. 3. Restless legs syndrome among women with chronic widespread pain

    Författare :Romana Stehlik; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :restless legs syndrome; chronic widespread pain; females; sleep disorders; HPA-axis;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The main aim of this thesis was to explore the prevalence, incidence and severity of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) in subjects with Chronic Widespread Pain (CWP). In addition, the thesis aimed to analyse the impact of pain and RLS on sleep as well as on measures of Hypothalamic–Pituitary–Adrenal (HPA)-axis function and skin sympathetic activity. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aerobic capacity in rheumatoid arthritis : aspects of associations with cardiovascular risk factors and disease activity

    Författare :Lars Ångström; Anna Södergren; Solveig Wållberg Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic and inflammatory disease that has been associated with an increased morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular disease (CVD). Low aerobic capacity is one of the strongest independent risk factors for CVD and all-cause mortality in the general population. LÄS MER
