  1. 1. Measurements in Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus : Computerized neuropsychological test battery and intracranial pulse waves

    Författare :Anders Behrens; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Eva Elgh; Niklas Lenfeldt; Marianne Juhler; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hydrocephalus; Normal Pressure; Neuropsychological tests; Neuropsychology; Reliability and validity; Software; Dementia; intracranial pressure; spinal puncture; cerebrospinal fluid pressure; pulse pressure waves; Blood flow velocity; Middle cerebral artery; Pulsatility index; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (INPH) is a condition affecting gait, cognition and continence. Radiological examination reveals enlarged ventricles of the brain. A shunt that drains CSF from the ventricles to the abdomen often improves the symptoms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The search for reversibility of Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus : Aspects on intracranial pressure measurments and CSF volume alteration

    Författare :Niklas Lenfeldt; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Katrine Riklund-Åhlström; John D. Pickard; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus; intracranial pressure; subcortical ischemia; neuronal integrity; cortical activation.; infusion test; cerebrospinal fluid dynamics; outflow resistance; compliance; elastance; proton spectroscopy; functional MRI; external lumbar drainage; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is still a syndrome generating more questions than answers. Today, research focuses mainly on two areas: understanding the pathophysiology – especially how the malfunctioning CSF system affects the brain parenchyma – and finding better methods to select patients benefiting from a shunt operation. 3. 3. Cerebral Hemodynamics through Intracrnial Pressure

    Författare :Sima Shahsavari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Intracranial dynamics; Baroreceptor reflex; Secondary brain injury; Traumatic brain injury; Collapsible tubes; Intracranial pressure; Cushing reflex; Pulse wave propagation; Cerebral autoregulation; Cerebral compliance; Mathematical modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) continues to be a major problem worldwide. Today, intensive care of patients with TBI is mainly focused on preventing and treating secondary brain injuries. High pressure inside the intracranial cavity has been found to be an important feature of disturbed cerebral dynamics and secondary injuries. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Distensibility in Arteries, Arterioles and Veins in Humans : Adaptation to Intermittent or Prolonged Change in Regional Intravascular Pressure

    Författare :Roger Kölegård; Ola Eiken; Toste Länne; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arterial stiffness; venous distensibility; venous flow characteristics; bedrest; pressure training; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The present series of in vivo experiments in healthy subjects, were performed to investigate wall stiffness in peripheral vessels and how this modality adapts to iterative increments or sustained reductions in local intravascular pressures. Vascular stiffness was measured as changes in arterial and venous diameters, and in arterial flow, during graded increments in distending pressures in the vasculature of an arm or a lower leg. 5. 5. Variability of blood pressure and heart rate in borderline and mild hypertension : With special reference to spectral analysis

    Författare :Reijo Takalo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; hypertension; blood pressure; ambulatory monitoring; power spectrum analysis; pulsecontour method; systemic hemodynamics; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study whether blood pressure (BP) or heart rate (HR) variability in borderline (BHT) and hypertensive (HT) subjects differs from that in normotensive (NT) subjects, and whether indices for BP and HR variability can be used in risk stratification for future hypertension. The study groups consisted of 35 NT, 29 BHT, and 34 HT middle-aged men. LÄS MER
