6. Ceramic Materials as Drug Delivery Systems
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to evaluate ceramic materials for drug delivery drugs applications. Three delivery routes were investigated; abuse-deterrent oral formulation, inhalation, and novel ceramic crystals with drug entrapped. A geopolymer matrix was developed in order to withstand non-medical abuse such as crushing, snorting, extraction etc. LÄS MER
7. Drug absorption in the lungs : studies in the isolated perfused rat lung model combined with physiologically based biopharmaceutics modelling
Sammanfattning : Pulmonary delivery of drugs is the preferred route of administration for treatment of local lung diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Recently, there has also been increased interest in systemic delivery of drugs via the lungs to avoid problems with low and/or variable gastrointestinal absorption, and as a needle-free alternative for drugs that cannot be ingested. 8. Effects of Microparticulate Drug Delivery Systems : Tissue Responses and Transcellular Transport
Sammanfattning : Over the past decade, the development of macromolecular drugs based on peptides, proteins and nucleic acids has increased the interest in microparticulate drug delivery, i.e., the delivery of drug systems in the nanometer and micrometer ranges. LÄS MER
9. Extreme hemodilution: Effects of inhalation anesthetics, hypoxia, and blood loss. An Experimental study in pigs
Sammanfattning : Hemodilution reduces the need for blood transfusion and hereby the risk for transmission of infectious agents. The present study investigated effects on systemic and myocardial circulation and oxygenation, and blood lactate concentrations; induced by nitrous oxide, isoflurane, hypoxia, and uncompensated blood loss, in pigs hemodiluted to a hematocrit of 11%. 10. Endothelial function during ischemia-reperfusion and effects of inhalation of nitric oxide
Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is an important regulatory organ in circulatory physiology and plays a central role in the response to acute inflammation and ischemia/reperfusion. Activation and dysfunction of the pulmonary vascular endothelium are closely related to clinical findings of pulmonary dysfunction. LÄS MER
